*On Tuesday, October 27th the Nokia Live, which houses the famous Staples Center, home of the  LA Lakers, was alive and buzzing with thousands of spectators.

What was all the hoopla about? Well, MJ’s “This Is It” premiered at Nokia causing quite a sensation and in the wake of the late afternoon premiere as movie goers exited, fans and people continued to flood the Staples Center to catch the Lakers first season game against the Clippers which Lakers won.

To add to the hype, rapper Doug E. Fresh was celebrating his birthday at “party central”…the Conga Room, strategically situated right smack in the hub of Nokia Live.

Upon arriving it was evident that parking lots were filled to capacity. You could also see the remnants of the elaborate construction of the red carpet built specifically for the

“This Is It” premiere held earlier on. Productions crews had not yet struck the set and I envisioned the enormity of what had taken place there just a few hours earlier.

In the Conga Room, the club’s speakers were booming with Michael Jackson hits spinning all night long instead of the traditional salsa musica.  In the soundproof adjacent restaurant, Lakers’ fans could watch the game while chowing down on Cuban-Euro-Mediterranean cuisine with mojito lindo chasers. My favorite spot was the terrace. There I could see all the hustle and bustle below while catching a view of the interior haps.

After the Lakers’ game ended, fans from the near-by Staples headed over to The Conga Room. Soon the place was jammed packed including the terrace as smokers made it their niche, much to my gloom. Everyone hoped to see Kobe but the only view of the superstar player, from the club’s view, was from the terrace, as he passed by below with his wife Vanessa. Screaming fans were chanting Kobe, Kobe.

From my limited cooking education watching the Food Network I recently learned that Kobe beef is a costly top grade beef. In LA Kobe is definitely grade A super sized worth mega-millions. Everyone thought he would come to the party, but alas he did not.

Instead, Jager Buss, grandson of Lakers owner Jerry Buss put in an appearance post Lakers game arriving with an entourage wearing serious attention-getting bling on his fingers including the coveted Lakers’ championship ring which was given to the players on this night for last year’s NBA championship. Vinni Ratcliff, famous photog started flashing his digital in light speed at the famous Buss family member. Other paps quickly followed suit.

Jager was then introduced to collegiate basketball star/actor ISA Hall and before I knew it Jager took off his ring and let ISA place it on his finger to pose for shots. This was a thrill for the up and coming star who is a bonafide Lakers fan and basketball aficionado.  All I could see were blinding diamonds and minutes later; I too had the priceless blinky bauble on my oooh la la pinky winky French tip-manicured finger.

There was a lot going on by that time, Doug E. Fresh was on the stage performing, shutting it down (I might add), sultry Sheila E tastefully dressed in black and white and host of the party was standing by in her private roped off area ready to make her way onto the stage to say a few words to Doug. But, my eyes were still transfixed from seeing so many diamond facets mounted on that championship ring.

Show me the jewelry and a buffet spread and I go limp. For me that was the highlight of the night. By twelve midnight it was game over and time to push the pedal to the metal. I heard that after I hit the road, Lamar and Khloe arrived. Oh, pooey! Sorry I missed the most talked about couple in LA.

The Nokia Live was the jammenest place to be, the vibe was electric and stimulating; and from The Conga Room, I was able to take in all the excitement. Till next time! Ta-ta.
