*Moviehole.com is reporting that Abel Ferrara has dropped out of Columbia's "Game of Death," the action drama that was to be his first pairing with star Wesley Snipes since 1990's "King of New York."

The project has been taken over by director Georgio Serafine, the Web site reported. No reason was given for Ferrara's departure.

In “Death,” currently shooting in Detroit, Snipes plays a diplomat's bodyguard who is injured in a botched assassination attempt.

All of the injured parties are rushed to the same hospital, where Snipes' character teams up with a nurse (Zoe Bell) to protect the diplomat from a team of ruthless assassins led by Zander (“Expendables” star Gary Daniels). The nurse soon learns that there is more to this sticky situation than expected.

Ferrara, whose best-known films include "Bad Lieutenant" and "China Girl," is currently attached to direct Berry Hill Films' "Jekyll & Hyde" starring Forest Whitaker and 50 Cent.
