EM'S BUS GOES UP IN SMOKE Tire friction blamed for blaze. *Eminem and Nelly may have a rivalry on the charts, but when Em's bus caught fire last week we bet he was saying "It's gettin' hot in herre!" The Anger Management Tour headliner's bus caught fire on Interstate 94 in Washtenaw County at about 1:30 p.m.according to officials. Pittsfield Township Fire Sgt. John Maguire said the bus was fully engulfed in flames by the time his department got to the scene. Three fire departments worked to extinguish the blaze and crews remained on the scene for about three hours. Hazmat crews were required to clean up about 150 gallons of diesel fuel that leaked from the bus's tank.        TY BANKS LOOKS INTO SECOND CAMP FOR KIDS Camps build self-esteem in young girls. *Tyra Banks, the first black woman to be featured on the cover of GQ and Sports Illustrated's swimsuit edition, has set up a summer camp to help girls develop self-esteem in California and is planning to expand to Florida next year. Banks said Saturday that she is considering the Fort Lauderdale and Orlando areas as possible sites for the new non-profit camp, called T-Zone. "The facility is very important," Banks told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "It has to be safe, something sanitary and exceptional staff." Banks started the first T-Zone camp in Santa Barbara, Calif. in 2000. The week-long, all-expenses-paid camp for girls ages 13 to 15 was born after Banks received countless letters from teenagers seeking guidance about body image, self-doubt and pressures from boys. Banks eventually hopes to open T-Zone camps all over the country. BISON DELE MAY BE LOST AT SEA Coast Guard on the case. *Law enforcement officials are concerned about the disappearance of former NBA player Bison Dele, formerly known as Brian Williams. Scheduled to sail on their boat from Moorea, Tahiti and bound for Honolulu via the Tua Motu and Marqesas Islands -- Dele, his girlfriend Serena Karlan and a three man crew -- have been missing since July 8. Prior to July 8, Serena Karlan had been contacting her mother at least once a week and Brian had been contacting his bank and Kevin "KP" Porter, his executive assistant in Michigan, once a month. On August 27, the Coast Guard and Tahiti Search and Rescue opened search cases for their boat from Hawaii through New Zealand. Dele, formerly known as Brian Williams, played NBA basketball with the Denver Nuggets, LA Clippers, 1997 NBA champion Chicago Bulls, and most recently with the Detroit Pistons from 1997-1999. The parents of both Serena Karlan and Bison Dele are seeking any help they can get to locate Dele and Karlan and the rest of the crew of the Hukuna Matata. A website with more information will be available soon at http://whereisbison.com. SHAGGY TESTS HIS LUCK New set features Chaka Khan. *Last time out Shaggy accomplished something that artists only dream of, he took "Hot Shot," his 2000 offering, to platinum status. On his upcoming set, "Lucky Day," Shaggy comes with a little less pop and a little more flavor. He has reportedly gone out and gotten Chaka Khan for "Party On." "She really funked it up," Shaggy told a reporter, a day after the two hooked up in a Los Angeles studio. "She blew up this sh*t. It's a real hot track." Other hot tracks on Lucky Day include the Mexican-flavored first single, "Hey Sexy Lady," and additional tunes "Strength of a Woman," "Full Control" (with Barrington Levy), "Still of the Night," "Shake Shake," "Hooky Jucky," "Another Day," "Walking in My Shoes," and "Lost," among others. The 14-track album also features a sequel of sorts to Shaggy's worldwide smash hit, "It Wasn't Me," with guest vocalist Rik Rok to boot. TEXAS D.A. TO REOPEN DRUG SWEEP CASE Convictions based on testimony of one undercover agent. *Recently Texas Attorney General John Cornyn announced he is opening an investigation into a 1999 drug sweep in which about 12 percent of the black population of Tulia, Tex., was arrested. The decision failed to appease civil rights lawyers, who described the arrests in an undercover operation as atrocities and want the convictions overturned. Reported in the NY Times, the story says that in July 1999, 46 people, all but 3 of them black, were arrested on drug charges in Tulia, a town of about 5,000 people. In nearly every case, the only evidence against the defendants was the testimony of a sole undercover agent, Tom Coleman. Coleman did not use wiretaps for corroboration, and records show he often filed shoddy reports. RUN DMC TO DO IT FOR THE DECADES Rap group to celebrate 2 decades in the game. *Yes, we all know they were once considered the kings of rock, but now Run DMC is trying to show the world why they've been doing this for two decades and are not about to stop. "Next year is actually Run-DMC's 20th anniversary," DMC said last week in New York, jogging the memory of anyone who forgot. "Twenty years in the game. We're on a tour right now, Run-DMC, Kid Rock and Aerosmith. While we’re on the tour bus, we're writing the Run-DMC 20th-year anniversary album. "It's gonna be rock/rap and it's gonna be b-boy," he added. "We're gonna take it back to the essence of the beat and rhyme like 'Sucker M.C.'s' and 'Beats to the Rhyme.' It's gonna be some R&B, radio-friendly [songs too], but we're taking it back to the b-boyism of the whole rap nation. Once we finish the album, we're gonna follow it up with a Run-DMC 20th anniversary tour. We're gonna bring everybody that ever touched the mic on the road for various dates." "[We want] anybody else that’s gonna give us rawness," DMC insisted. "We don't want the norm." DMC, who notes DMX as the rapper he's feeling most these days, said the adrenaline rush they get from performing on the same stage with the rock stars is inspiring his and Rev Run's lyric-penning. MANNY'S PICK NOT A HIT AT FENWAY "Good Times" is bad press for Fenway. *Usually pro baseball players can pick and chose whatever music they feel will get them in the mood when coming up to bat, but that may be about to change in light of what folks at Boston's Fenway Park were subjected to on Sunday. As Manny Ramerez was preparing for his first at bat "Good Times" by Styles could be heard blaring through the loud speaker. Everything was all good until about 54 seconds into the song when a certain 12 letter word was heard over the loud speakers, followed by drug references. "To avoid that, we will no longer accommodate spontaneous requests," Fenway Park spokesman Charles Steinberg said during Boston's game against the Toronto Blue Jays. "Far be it for me to try to understand the psychology of what motivates a batter," Steinberg said. "They key is to avoid playing anything that's going to disturb the family atmosphere you try so hard to achieve." SWIZZ VIDEO BIZ New visual aid to feature big music names. *It is sometimes hard to believe how much of a big dog Swizz Beatz has become. He proves just how large in his upcoming video for "Bigger Business." According to reports, Swizz's video features a who's who of industry big wigs all up in the biz. P.Diddy, Busta Rhymes and Eve are among the urban celebs featured in the video, inspired by the "Sopranos" and directed by Benny Boom. Snoop Dogg, Ron Isley, Jadakiss, Loon, Baby and Cassidy will also appear in the video playing roulette, craps, blackjack and, of course, poker. All but Busta, Eve and Loon performed on the actual sound recording. The next single from the upcoming Swizz Beatz Presents G.H.E.T.T.O. Stories, hits stores December 10. GOT NEWS? EURextraTUESDAY FEEDBACK ( send email to: EURfeedback@eurweb.com ) *Violet Brown, Wherehouse Music, Los Angeles, CA: "I am a buyer for a major music chain and I would like to share a special moment that I had with Biggie right before his first album was released. It was 1995 and his label brought him by my office for a lunch meeting. Craig Mack was with him. We went to a Tony Roma's for lunch. Before lunch Biggie & Craig said their prayers. During lunch we talked about many different things. Craig's single "Flava In Ya Ear" was number 1 and the video was hot at the time, we talked about that. The O.J. Simpson case was a very hot topic. Biggie was the one that brought up O.J. I have always remembered his views and what he said about the issue of O.J. and through the years I have told this story many times. Biggie said, 'It really does not matter what O.J. gets away with here on earth, he will have to stand before his maker and then he will be dealt with.' Does this statement and belief sound like it comes from a man that would be involved in a murder?? My name is Violet and his mother's name is Violetta, we talked about my name and his mother. He was a total Mama's boy. He spoke so highly of her and said that he just wanted to make her proud of him. His love and appreciation of her was tremendous. Biggie was polite, humorous, very talkative and from this lunch I knew that he loved the Lord and his Mother very much. I do not believe that he would have anything to do with a murder. Also, I have dealt with rappers since the very beginning of rap and I do not know very many rappers that would have an extra million dollars to hand out for a crime. They may have lots of equity in homes, cars, and jewelry but a million laying around to hand out to someone for a crime sounds a little over the top. Both Big and Pac were extremely polite, loving and good guys from my dealings with them. It is really a shame that these crimes have not yet been solved. God Bless their families." *I. Gibson, Los Angeles, CA: "Thank you to Paul H. Scott of Carson, CA (EUR 9-9-02) for 'enlightening us a bit' (or at least those of us who needed enlightening). It's amazing how naive the Times and media believe most of us are when it comes to issues 'they' believe they have the inside scoop on." WHERE WERE YOU ON 9/11? For details, contact us at: info@eurweb.com !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *David Fleiss, Washington, DC: "On 09-09-02 feedbacker Paul Scott wrote, 'When we look back at the 20th centurys greatest artists, Michael Jackson would place no higher than third on most lists. More people go see Elvis Presley DEAD (and buy more of his records) than Mike at this point in time. The Beatles and the Eagles would have a strong case where total record sales are concerned.' If one is looking back at the 20th Century (and not just the second half of the 20th Century), I don't think Michael Jackson would be on anybody's list. For a while, Michael Jackson was the best at what he did (and does), but don't confuse making teeny-bopper hits with musicianship and artistry. With influential artists and musicians such as Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, James Brown, and Sly Stone -- can anybody say (with a straight face) that Michael Jackson belongs in their company?" *Charisse Browner, LA, CA: "I have to respond to people who think hip hop artists don't contribute anything in their communities to help, particularly the youth. I have seen, first hand, major hip hop artists give, donate, assist, help, loan or do whatever is asked of them for the good of the community. What people don't know is that they do it without the media fanfare or through nonprofit organizations that they support. Trust me, I can tell you that if were not for the generosity of many, many hip hop artist, our foundation, Knowledge Is Power, would not exist! Through their kind donation of time and financial donations, we would not have been able to donate over 1.8 million dollars to Los Angeles public schools, youth organizations, gang prevention programs and relief funds over the past 8 years. If it weren't for the Dre's, the Nelly's, the Busta Rhymes, the Ja Rules, Jay Zs and Snoops of the world, many organizations, such as ours, would fade in the wind. Many hip hop artists and entertainers silently have their own nonprofits that do a great deal in the community. Remember, just because you don't hear about it doesn't mean it doesn't exist!"
