Goldberg will play Maris Elder, “a mysterious resident of the Drake who helps Jane unlock the secret of the building’s true evil origins,” says exec producer David Wilcox. “Whoopi’s an incredible actor, so when we heard that she was a horror fan, we wrote the role for her.”
Word has it that Maris will hypnotize nosy Jane (Rachael Taylor) and send her back in time to 1927, according to TV Guide.
666 Park Avenue: Terry O’Quinn and Vanessa Williams
*Vanessa Williams said she immediately thought of a certain jailed financial scoundrel from New York when she was first introduced to her character’s husband in the new ABC drama “666 Park Avenue.”
“I thought about the Madoffs immediately because they were extremely wealthy,” she told us. “They had incredible land holdings all over that people knew about and knew that they had a great amount of wealth. And then we all saw the dark side and what happened and how they created their empire.”
Vanessa Williams as Olivia Dunn in “666 Park Avenue”
Williams plays Olivia Doran, the sophisticated ice queen of the Drake residential hotel located at 999 Park Avenue. Olivia is married to the building’s owner Gavin Doran (Terry O’Quinn), and together this supernatural couple – quietly and with a smile – wreaks havoc on their chosen targets in the building. [Meet the Dorans in the video below.]
“When I read the script for the pilot, I loved the world,” Williams said of the series, which premiered last Sunday at 10 p.m. “ Without giving a lot away, which most of you have seen the pilot, the first pages where you see the violinist playing, and you see the blood start to trickle down his fingers, and then they cut to Olivia and Gavin Doran watching him at the philharmonic and cut back to him and packing up his violin and rushing to a cab and running back to the building — I was completely taken from the very beginning, and I said, wow, this is compelling.
“It’s in a city that I love, and I’m glad to be shooting back home, and it’s a world that I wanted to explore. It’s the Upper East Side. It’s luxurious. It’s a couple that are very powerful.”

The folks that brought you FX’s “The Shield” are back with ABC’s “Last Resort,” a “Lost” meets “Crimson Tide” thriller that sees Andre Braugher as Marcus Chaplin, the captain of a submarine ordered to fire nuclear missiles at Pakastan. Something, however, doesn’t sound right with the order, and Chaplin refuses to follow it – which results in his submarine being hit by US military. Chaplin and his surviving crew, who take over a nearby island, are subsequently declared enemies of the state. Below, Braugher talks about the dilemma facing his character.

There’s some creepy ‘ish going on at The Drake. …ABC’s new drama “666 Park Avenue” doubles as the address of the fictional hotel, where Vanessa Williams’ Olivia Duran and her husband Gavin (Terry O’Quinn) lord over the staff and patrons with secretly-sinister intentions that will be revealed throughout the season. Host Jimmy Kimmel speaks onstage at the “64th Primetime Emmy Awards” panel during the Disney/ABC Television Group portion of the 2012 Summer TCA Tour on July 27, 2012 in Beverly Hills
Jimmy Kimmel will host the 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Sept. 23, but don’t expect a reunion with his new BFF Oprah Winfrey for any Emmy sketches resembling the bits they created for Kimmel’s post-Oscar special in February.
Robin Roberts, who announced she is planning a medical leave due to her battle with myelodysplastic syndrome, arrives at ‘Good Morning America’ on July 26, 2012. The anchor, currently undergoing chemotherapy, wears a matching armband to cover up a pic line in her arm.
As previously reported, Robin Roberts spoke to TCA members last week about the roller coaster ride she endured at “Good Morning America” during one particular week in April – when “GMA” beat longtime champs “Today” in the ratings for the first time in ages, she interviewed President Barack Obama (who would make news about his approval of gay marriage during her Q&A), and she was diagnosed with MDA (myelodysplastic syndrome), a serious blood and bone marrow disease that requires a bone marrow transplant to treat. The 51-year-old anchor, who famously battled and beat breast cancer five years ago, has found a perfect bone marrow match in her sister and has begun chemotherapy in preparation for the transplant in either late Aug. or early Sept. Below, Roberts talks about how she’s feeling, and the craziness of that particular week in April.
