But artists kept mum about it until now.
Carl Thomas opened up with The Root to discuss his future in X-rated lyrics.
“I mean, would I do something like that? No, because that’s really not my bag as a songwriter. I feel like you can relay the same message in a poetic fashion, and that’s the challenge of being a songwriter,” he states.
But with all of that, Thomas isn’t one to cast a stone at his friend.
“But do I stand in judgment? No, not at all. We don’t question hip-hop artists for saying the same thing. At the end of the day…we talk like guys do. But do I think it was a wise career move? No.”
Thomas is sticking with the safe stuff. He’s getting ready to release a new single produced by his late mentor Heavy D, “It Is What It Is.”
