*Electricity powers not only business growth but also lights the minds of young people –helping them to learn when theyplug intheir computers and other essential technologicaltools.
R&B star Akon recognizes that in many parts of Africa business expansionis not possible and children’s education stifled because there is no ability to getelectricity.
“They’re using kerosene and candles after dark,” he said when talking about his effort to drastically change their plight.
The five-time Grammy nominated artist has launched “Akon Lighting Africa,”a partnership to bring electricity to one million households in Africa by the end of 2014.
*In addition to making music, Akon is staying busy for a worthy cause with the launch of Akon Lighting Africa, an international initiative created to provide electricity to one million homes in Africa by the end of 2014.
Akon, along with Give 1 Project and Solektra International and ADS (Africa Development Solutions) Group, is leading the effort, which address a crucial need in sub-Saharan Africa. More than two-thirds of the region’s population is without electricity, inn addition to more than 85 percent of those living in rural areas lack access to resources with electricity.
*Who knew? Akon is a philosopher too. He’s got it all figured out.
TMZ caught up with the “Smack That” artist at LAX and found out that we Americans have been doing it all wrong. If we were a polygamous society, we’d all be better off.
“If America adopted that culture there would be less domestic disputes. The average guy in the world has a main girl and they got a side chick. And then they got a jumpoff,” he said detailing his theory. “At the end of the day as a male we are natural breeders by nature. We can’t even escape it if we wanted to. Let’s say you put 1,000 guys on one corner and one bad chick walk passed. You gon’ see 1,000 heads go, ‘Damn.’ They don’t even know why they doing it. They’re natural breeders. It’s in their genes, they can’t help it.”
Belly laugh. Oh wait. Wait. There’s more, because monogamy, according to Akon, was not a part of God’s plan.
“Men are put on this earth to breed and the reason why God put multiple women on this earth is for that,” he explained. “When looking at reproduction, there’s always going to be more reproducing than actual reproducers themselves. There’s more to it scientifically, but as humans, women need to take more time to understand men. If they can do that I think things will work out better for us.”
And listen to this one:
“Marriage just solidifies a relationship between a man and a woman spiritually under God’s eyes,” he added. “So, I can be spiritually attached to her, and still be spiritually attached to [another woman], and still be spiritually attached to [another woman.]”
Whoo! We couldn’t make this stuff up if we tried!

*After the George Zimmerman verdict, we saw people respond in so many ways including riots, open letters and even blocking freeways with protests. But music artist Akon had a different and unexpected approach.
So many celebrities took to Twitter to express both their distaste for Zimmerman being found not guilty as well as their concern for public safety as result of the aftermath the case has caused.
Akon is now suggesting that all black people pack their backs and move to Africa, where he says you would live as royalty.
“Every African American in the United States need to move their money, family, knowledge back to Africa were u will be treated like the royalty you are,” Akon captioned.
“You don’t deserve this treatment. This is not your country!!”
Akon himself was born in Africa, of Senegalese descent to be exact.
