Earnestine Thomas and fellow African American 1963 high school graduates of Birmingham, Alabama, finally get a prom.
*We were so glad to see Wilcox County High School in Cordele, Georgia, come to their senses and have an integrated prom last week.
Even though it was organized by students that were fed up with the state of affairs, surely the triumph feels the same.
The Class of 1963, may have taken notes from the affair because now a few students have come together to put together the prom they never had.
Earnestine Thomas will be joining in the 50 year celebration of the civil rights movement in Birmingham, Alabama, May 17, by having a prom for her and others from several high schools.
Katherine Webb aka Miss Alabama was the object of ESPN’s Brent Musburger during the Alabama vs. Notre Dame game Monday, January 7, 2013.
*Alabama really put a spankin’ on Notre Dame Monday night.
The game ended with a disgraceful 42-14 loss for #1 Notre Dame. They were getting beaten so bad in the first quarter, the commentators got restless and turned their eyes to other things.
MSNBC’s Tamron Hall was, as they say in Internet talk, ROFLMAO, when she heard ESPN broadcaster Brent Musburger, 73, nearly stalking Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron’s girlfriend, Katherine Webb.
Musburger couldn’t stop focusing on the “beauty” of the 25-year-old Miss Alabama. The incident went so far that ESPN felt compelled to issue an apology to Webb and viewers.
Razellius Mills, 20, disembowels group home resident
*So far, we haven’t heard anything about bath salts in the latest story of mayhem, but we’re hoping that someone will bring some logical explanation to the table soon.
Razellius Mills, 20, was breaking into an Alabama group home when he must’ve been encountered by one of its residents during the night.
He stabbed Derrick Woods, 32, and then “ripped” out his intestines and cut them as well, according to the Huffington Post.
Marvin Gaye, I’m with you….What’s Goin’ On!
Jeweler, Jeff Dennis, will hand out 10′s of thousands of dollars in refunds after losing Iron Bowl football game bet.
*If you are getting engaged and bought your jeweler at an Alabama jewelry store, you may be eligible for a refund of your money spent on the ring.
Now you might think that this offer would break the jewelry store, but it really made cash for the jeweler.
Jeff Dennis of Jeff Dennis Jewelers made a bet that he could not lose when he offered his customers refunds if they purchased anything between Nov. 16 to 23 if either side in the Iron Bowl game between Alabama and Auburn was shut out.
*Are you one of the many people who are tired of seeing young and older men (who should know better) wearing their pants below the tail bone with ugly, sometimes dirty, underwear showing?
There are so many guys that think there should be a movement in support of this not-so-smart looking fashion choice as an accepted “right” in society.
However, nothing but the opposite has sprung up around the country in condemnation of this abominable choice to display their rear end. (more…)
*Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer was honored today by her home state of Alabama.
About 400 people turned up at the Alabama Statehouse to celebrate the actress, who won this year’s best supporting actress Oscar for her performance as a maid in “The Help.”
She rolled up to the Statehouse in a pink limousine for the ceremony. As she stepped out, she was serenaded by the band from her alma mater, Jefferson Davis High School.
A Montgomery native, Spencer told the crowd that she would do whatever she could to see that more movies are made in Alabama. She also cautioned young people in the audience to think twice before heading to Hollywood to become a movie star.
Spencer was also honored by a joint session of the Legislature, and Gov. Robert Bentley declared today Octavia Spencer Day.
