- Angie Martinez
*The goings on at New York’s No. 1 radio station 97.1 WQHT will be seen in a new VH1 half-hour reality series, titled “This Is Hot 97.”
In addition to the personalities in the cast — Ebro, Angie Martinez, Funkmaster Flex, Rosenberg — the show will feature cameos from some music acts who stop by for interviews, like Macklemore, Wale, Rick Ross, and Kanye West.
“This Is Hot 97” will premiere March 31 at 10:30 p.m. Watch the trailer below:
*Don’t come for her family! Not in a person’s best interests.
The youngest and most outspoken sister, Tamar Braxton might have been annoyed at her sister Towanda for her comments about her man Vince Herbert, but that doesn’t mean she’s turning against her sister.
After a Twitter user said Towanda was jealous of her sister, she responded with: “@mslady57 check the web boo! He also owes 3.3 million to the irs….guess I’m jealous of that too huh?”
*“American Idol” has truly left a bad taste in the mouth of Mariah Carey.
The songstress told Angie Martinez she “hated” being on the show.
“Honestly, I hated it,” says Mariah. “I thought it was going to be a three-person panel.”
Well, no need to expound upon that, Nicki Minaj made the fourth judge, and Mariah clearly means “her” when she used the term, “devil” during the interview. But she explains what enticed her in the beginning.
“They gave me a nice dangling monetary moment and I was just like, ‘Okay, Randy Jackson will be there; I’ve known him forever.”
Yet it seems like, other than her issues with Minaj, she was really turned off by the politics of the show; and may have even been a little too sensitive for the whole thing.
“You know what I loved? I loved the contestants,” she says. “Some of them were so good and also really good people, you could tell–it was disappointing when [the judges] would, for political reasons, not put people through.”
Its probably safe to assume that Mariah won’t be sitting in any judges seats any time soon. She made it a point to say, “I like being in the studio better and going on my own tours, etc., so we’re going back to that.”
We hear you, girl. Do YOU!
*Rapper Ja Rule was released from prison early four months ago after serving time for tax evasion and gun possession charges and is working his way back into the spotlight.
Rule and his friend/executive producer Irv Gotti sat down for a candid interview with Hot 97′s Angie Martinez to discuss his time in prison, the fall of their record label Murder Inc, and his faith-based film, “I’m In Love With A Church Girl.”
“In some weird way I think I needed a break….I grew up a lot in prison. I read a lot of books…It was love. That was weird to me, being that I went through so much. I was very physically ready to be aggressive and angry…but when I went to state prison they put you in PC, they call it IPC, I was in IPC (involuntary protective custody) because I’m a celebrity…But the FEDS don’t’ care, they put you in population. I got a chance to feel both sides. When I was in the State I called it the polo club. We was eating good. I got a lot of packages in, we got Turkeys on Thanksgiving. But when I went to the FEDS it was a different ride. When I went to MDC they automatically put me in PC situation, but it’s not protective custody, you’re locked down 23 hours a day. So I said get me outta here. Then they said the only place to put you is in population and said that’s cool with me. I’m in my city. Put me in population. I’ll be alright. It was a lot of love.”
The Decline of Murder Inc..
“It was a roller coaster because everything was happening so fast. There was no dip, it was a straight (drop). I’m a fan driven artist. I take all pictures, I sign all autographs. So for me it was like wow. A lot of people think I was angry at the fans. I wasn’t as angry as I was hurt…I went into a dark place. Everything was angry, my music, the way I moved in the streets. It was like when LeBron left Cleveland, they hated LeBron…”
On 50 Cent…
“When we was in the office and Flex was about to play “In The Club” the record was so dope and I looked at Rule and I said ‘we have a major problem. Yeah, we took the L, it’s what you do if you keep swinging and keep fighting. We was winning and dominating. I was watching diddy’s reign of terror but I wanted that spot. That’s what hip-hop is. When we came with the DMX record and said “let’s take it back to the streets” that was me saying “look at us.” -Irv Gotti
“There was a lot going on during that time frame. He was the part of the juggernauts at that moment, Eminem and Dre. As everything started to crumble for us and not having a label home, it was easy for [50 Cent] to get people to turn on [us]. There were things going on behind the scenes that made us seem more irrelevant. We couldn’t’ go to awards shows. We would get calls from BET and MTV that we love you guys but we don’t’ want you guys in the building. So the fans are thinking “you don’t see these guys anymore.” – Ja Rule

*Lance Gross is a hottie, but he wasn’t good enough to win the role of the sexy side kick on “Scandal.”
He told NYC DJ Angie Martinez during a drop by at Hot 97 that he competed for the role of “Harrison.”
“I was up for that role. Yeah, it hurts,” Lance said with a laugh before congratulating Columbus on scoring the role. “He’s killing it. He was right for it.”
A great way to keep the ball rolling. No hate here, just another opportunity for the actor to land a different role on an NBC pilot, where he’ll play the role of a secret service agent.
“I feel like everybody uplifts everybody,” the actor told Angie, adding that he thinks women are far more likely to get snippy over a lost role. “I feel like the girls do that moreso than guys–getting catty about the roles. It’s friendly competition. It’s just like sports.”
*Amber Rose was cornered by TMZ on Tuesday and may have let some news slip about her fiancé Wiz Khalifa during a brief exchange with the videographer.
When the pap gifted her with a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ice cream bar, Amber said, “My husband loves Ninja Turtles! That’s really cute, thank you.”
Does this mean Wiz and Amber are already married?
The rapper, real name Cameron Thomaz, proposed to Rose early last year, months before they confirmed rumors they are expecting their first child at the MTV Video Music Awards in September.
Khalifa previously admitted the couple was planning to wed in a simple courthouse ceremony before Christmas, and now it appears the nuptials may have taken place.
In December, Khalifa told New York radio station Hot 97 he and Rose were planning to have two ceremonies – a low-key one to make their romance official and a bigger bash for family and friends in 2013, after Rose gives birth – so she can wear her dream wedding dress.
He told DJ Angie Martinez, “We’re gonna get, like, licensed marriage, in a couple of weeks we’ll have that done. When you have the (big) ceremony that’s when you can invite the family. She can fit into a dress and then… if we have a daughter one day, she might wanna give the dress to our daughter, but if she’s pregnant then she can’t do that.”
