(L-R) “Today” co-anchors Al Roker, Savannah Guthrie and Matt Lauer host NBC’s “Today” at Rockefeller Plaza on August 16, 2012 in New York City
*TMZ is reporting that Al Roker is “doing everything he can to undermine the ‘Today’ show … trashing the anchors, sabotaging live moments … and it seems to be a part of a plan to avenge the firing of his bestest friend in the world, Ann Curry.”
Roker made another dig this morning during a live segment with Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie. Al was trying to explain why he pulled a weird frozen face for 17 confusing seconds during a live segment last week. When Savannah joked about Roker being a perfect fit for a wax museum, Al shot back, “We ARE in a wax museum, so it all works out pretty well.” (Watch here.)
Last week, Roker accused his colleagues of throwing people “under the bus” during a live segment.
Roker, Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie and Tamron Hall were wrapping up an interview with members of the U.S. women’s rowing team when the tradition of a winning team throwing their coxswain into the water was discussed.
Lauer mentioned how the tradition in New York is to throw her into the Hudson River.
Quipped Roker: “Which is different than our tradition, which is you throw one of us under the bus, but that’s another story.”
Lauer and Guthrie then playfully scolded Roker.
“Today” fired co-anchor Ann Curry less than two months ago amid a ratings slump.
*Now that NBC got Ann Curry out the way after 15 years of dedicated reporting with “The Today Show,” the network is on the hunt for a new third string host.
If you saw Curry’s emotional speech last week, announcing her departure, it seemed quite obvious that she was not planning on this. She was quite tearful. But sources say ratings have been slumping for some time and the network needed to make some changes.
Others say, however, the real reason she’s outta there is because her co-host, Matt Lauer didn’t like her.
This could be true if you check out her body language after he kisses her during her speech. Word is that when Lauer negotiated his contract for the new year for $25 million, an absolute provision was that Curry needed to be out the picture.
An Essence writer believes Tamron Hall should be the pick.
Check out an excerpt of her piece below:
If sleeping with the television on were a punishable offense, I’d surely be in handcuffs. While I hereby plead guilty to the crime of being entranced by “the glare,” I’m certainly aware that it’s not an ideal setting in which to get my eight hours of shut-eye. It’s just how I roll.
Now that the cat is out of the bag, I’d like to mention that I do have a few stipulations when it comes to my late-night/early-morning television dance. For starters, I make sure that the volume is always lowered to a comfortable, non-intrusive level “6.” Secondly, the channel must be set to “4” before I head into my semi-dream state. Why, you ask? Because I like waking up to the Today show…and because of my “dedicated viewer” status, I’d like to officially toss Tamron Hall’s name into the hat for that now vacant co-anchor slot. I just feel that it’s my duty.
Is Ann Curry leaving the 'Today' show for $10 million?
*NBC’s “Today” show has long been the home of the nation’s favorite starting line-up: Al Roker, Matt Lauer, Katie Couric … oops! She abandoned ship for CBS Evening News. And they recycled her when the ratings dropped on a consistent basis and she headed over to ABC’s morning show “Good Morning America.” Now, NBC is prepared to do some recycling of their own. (more…)
