For Derrick Ashong (pictured above), the chance to talk face to face with the former neighborhood watchman was an opportunity he could not pass up.
*Rosie O’Donnell returned to The View today for the first time since her epic battle with former co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck in 2007. The visit went rather smoothly – until the topic turned to Woody Allen’s alleged sexual abuse of his daughter.
Co-host Sherri Shepherd asked O’Donnell to weigh in on the topic. The director’s adopted daughter Dylan Farrow recently wrote a blog post in which she detailed her accusations she was sexually abused by Allen when she was 7. Allen has denied the accusations, and Walters has stood by him all week. This has caused friction with Sherri, who believes Dylan.
“I totally believe her,” O’Donnell said on Friday’s show, adding that she and Dylan’s adopted mom, Mia Farrow, are “very good friends.” “She’s the best mother I’ve ever seen…I firmly believe Mia, and I firmly believe Dylan,” Rosie said.
*Barbara Walters defended Woody Allen on Monday’s episode of “The View,” despite the open letter written by his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow accusing the legendary writer-director of sexually assaulting her.
Referring to her long friendship with Allen and seeing how he behaves around his two daughters with wife Soon-Yi Previn, Walters said, “I have rarely seen a father as sensitive, as loving and as caring as Woody is and Soon-Yi to these two girls. I don’t know about Dylan. I can only tell you what I have seen now.”
But “View” co-host Sherri Shepherd pointed out that we often hear that people accused of doing horrible things were seen as loving and caring.
*Ciara has finally confirmed reports she is pregnant with her first child by showing off her baby bump Tuesday on “The View.”
The singer became engaged to her rapper boyfriend, Future, in October. That’s when the rumors of her pregnancy started after Ciara appeared to be with child during a performance at the Paper Magazine Nightlife Awards in New York.
Future fueled the speculation by dodging questions about the baby claims during a radio interview in November, but Ciara decided to come clean today during her appearance on “The View.”
*Neither Kim Kardashian nor Kanye West are Barbara Walters’ Most Fascinating Person of 2013, but the engaged couple are somewhere in the Top 10.
The most fascinating person will be announced on the program, which airs on Dec. 18 at 9:30 p.m.
Kimye joins “Good Morning America’s” Robin Roberts, foam finger-loving Miley Cyrus, Oscar winning “Hunger Games” star Jennifer Lawrence and stars of the hit reality show “Duck Dynasty” on Babs’ list this year.
NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, Prince William and Kate Middleton’s little bundle of joy, Prince George also made the cut.
This will be the last “Most Fascinating” special for Walters, who announced last May that she would retire from TV journalism next year.
*There was a report Tuesday that “Today” show co-host Hoda Kotb “had rejected a compelling deal” to join ABC’s “The View,” opting to stay with the NBC morning show’s fourth hour.
Well, this was news to “View” producers Barbara Walters and Bill Geddie.
“Bill and I have never called her. We have never met her. We have never offered her a compelling deal,” Walters said on the show this morning, refuting the story posted by Capital New York.
“I like her a lot,” Walters continued, before gesturing to her co-hosts and saying, “We are not offering any of you a compelling deal either.”
Capital New York reported that ABC News hoped to put her on ‘The View,’ and also make her an intricate part of the network, but that sources confirmed she was happiest at NBC News, where she’s been since her “Dateline” debut in 1998.
Walters couldn’t even pronounce Hoda’s last name correctly while denying the report this morning. New co-host Jenny McCarthy said Kotb wouldn’t like hosting “The View” anyway, because “we only have water in our cups.” (Kotb and her “Today” co-host Kathie Lee Gifford are famous for sipping wine during their broadcasts.)
