Martha Makuena is the owner of Paulma Afro Salon, the first African owned black hair care salon in Beijing, China.
*Black women in the military and/or military wives stationed throughout the world often complain about the lack of availability for their hair care products and/or salons.
But, there’s one country that has opened up to the idea, you just gotta get stationed there.
But for those that are stationed in Beijing, China, they don’t have to worry anymore. Martha Makuena is the first black hair care salon in the city and she’s taking appointments.
Her customers are diverse and she has filled a much needed area of hair care services, that ironically, in China they struggle to fulfill.
*For whatever reason, it seems some enterprising business person is determined to sell their chicken by associating it with Barack Obama.
Remember the infamous “Obama Fried Chicken” joint in Brownsville, Brooklyn that opened back in 2009?
Well jump forward to today and go to Beijing, China and voila, whaddya know, it’s “Obama Fried Chicken” all over again.
We guess it should come as no surprise since KFC used an Obama lookalike to pitch it’s chicken in Hong Kong.
*The odds of someone surviving a 10-story drop are normally not very good. But when good Samaritans get involved it appears that the odds start to shape up!
Over the weekend, a child found that out firsthand. The good Samaritan and the child live to tell the story.
In Beijing, a 2-year old toddler was left with her grandmother, but grandma didn’t end up being the best candidate for a babysitter as she left the child in the 10-story apartment alone (more…)
*Check out Usher. He’s gonna sing, if only for a little bit, in Chinese during his concert on Sunday in Beijing, reports the AP.
Specifically, he’s do one of Asian pop sensation Wang Lihong’s songs in Chinese, according to Wang at a joint press conference Saturday night. Later, the two will also sing Usher’s No. 1 “OMG.”
“I wanted to make a great impression, so I wanted to do something very special,” Usher said. “After hearing (Wang’s) music, I wanted to collaborate with him.”
Usher’s is the first big foreign concert tour to perform in China this year.
*Beijing is staring a controversy in the face, but in one day the dumping of 21 dead infants in a river has turned from a horrific medical action to maybe it’s a cultural thing. NOT!!
According to the Associated Press, the Shandong province-based Qilu Evening News reported that hospitals normally ask the family to take dead infants.
Also, some rural families in China see the death of a young child as bad luck among some rural families, and the baby is abandoned or put in an unmarked grave. (more…)
