*Allure editors received backlash from readers this week over its June 2013 cover girl Zoe Saldana – not because she’s completely nude in the editorial spread, but because her weight – all of 115 pounds – was mentioned in the cover tease of her article.
The headline reads, “Zoe Saldana: 115 pounds of grit and heartache.”
Fans who complained felt that the reveal would be detrimental to young girls already struggling with body image issues. The controversy prompted Allure editors to address it on their Facebook page, writing, “The girl is a powerhouse. And we were so impressed by what a tough, confident woman Saldana is (on-screen, in her action-movie roles, and off) that we wanted to capture that.”
Saldana also addressed the drama this morning (May 16) during an appearance on “Today,” explaining, “I think that it would have been wrong if they were lying about my weight. This is how much I weigh, it’s something I can’t control, it’s who I am, I’ve always been of a very thin frame – I was a ballet dancer.
“They (editors) wanted to do it, I don’t think it was to make an issue of my weight, I think it was to talk about that, for a light-weight person, I seem to be really strong-minded.”
Saldana has also addressed reports suggesting she’s bisexual after telling Allure she’d be happy to raise kids with a woman as a partner.
The actress, who has dated Bradley Cooper, tells HollyScoop.com, “It wasn’t a generalization; it was a statement that I strongly stand by. As of today, I’ve been attracted to the male species, but, if one day I wake up and want to be with a woman, I will do that because it is my life, therefore it is my decision.”
