*Is Cory Booker off the market?
Er, ‘scuse us, we meant is SENATOR Cory Booker off the market?
Yes, we’re talking about the love/romance market. In other words, if you was thinking about trying to hook up with him, he’s already taken.
The freshly minted junior senator has been linked to an easy to look at Hollywood entertainment lawyer who is – yes – a female, according to the New York Post’s Page Six.
The report claims that Bianca Levin, an LA-based graduate of Yale Law School, is said to be Booker’s girlfriend.
The 36-year-old attorney works for the Gang Tyre Ramer & Brown talent firm, which represents stars like Clint Eastwood, Dwayne Johnson and Steven Spielberg. She was listed on the Hollywood Reporter‘s “Hollywood’s Fastest-Rising Stars” list two years ago and has allegedly started to “accompany Booker to certain events.”
While Booker was running for the New Jersey Senate seat he won last month, he had to deal with questions about his personal life. In fact, he’s been dogged by rumors that he is gay for years.
Here’s what he told the Washington Post back in August:
“People who think I’m gay, some part of me thinks it’s wonderful. Because I want to challenge people on their homophobia. I love seeing on Twitter when someone says I’m gay, and I say, ‘So what does it matter if I am’”
*New Jersey’s Cory Booker was sworn into the Senate on Thursday, the latest chapter in the former Newark mayor’s meteoric rise to stardom.
Booker, a Democrat, is the first black senator from New Jersey and the first black senator to be elected since Barack Obama won his Illinois seat in 2004.
“We’re going to find Cory Booker is going to be a great asset to this nation and the Senate,” said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev. “We’re very fortunate to have this good man in the Senate. He’ll serve his state and our nation with distinction.”
Immediately following his swearing-in, Booker cast his first vote as a senator, a procedural matter allowing for a vote on Mel Watt, Obama’s nominee to head the Federal Housing Finance Agency.
Booker also was to join Vice President Biden for a ceremonial swearing-in and meet with Obama in the White House Oval Office.
Booker and his mother, Carolyn, were surrounded by news media earlier in the day when they posed for a photo with Reid.
In addition to his mother, Booker, 44, was joined at the U.S. Capitol by his brother, Cary, and a host of other family members. His father died earlier this month after a long bout with Parkinson’s disease.
Booker resigned as mayor of Newark at midnight Wednesday after serving seven years.
His Senate committee assignments were not yet known.
Booker replaces Republican Sen. Jeff Chiesa, who was appointed to the seat following the June 3 death of longtime Democratic Sen. Frank Lautenberg. Booker defeated Republican Steve Lonegan in an Oct. 16 special election.
Booker will serve out the remainder of Lautenberg’s term, which ends in 2014. He plans to run for re-election.
*VH1 has set February 2014 for the premiere of its latest “rock doc,” although it’s rap and not rock music that’s at the center of this 4-part documentary.
“The Tanning of America: One Nation Under Hip Hop,” based on Steve Stoute’s bestseller The Tanning of America: How Hip-Hop Created A Culture That Rewrote The Rules Of The New Economy, takes a trip down memory lane to examine how hip-hop culture influenced music, film, television, fashion, business, race relations and the politics that opened the door for Obama’s America, reports Deadline.com.
“Tanning” in this case is a phrase coined by Stoute for the deep-rooted influence traditionally African-American hip-hop has had on pop culture from “The Jeffersons” to “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” to Spike Lee’s “Do the Right Thing” to Eminem’s “8 Mile.”
Billy Corben (Cocaine Cowboys, 30 for 30‘s Broke and The U) directed the doc with Alfred Spellman producing, nabbing interviews with Diddy, Dr Dre, Mariah Carey, Will.i.am, Russell Simmons, Pharrell, Nas, Reverend Run, Rick Rubin, Fab 5 Freddy, Jimmy Iovine, Al Sharpton, Cory Booker, Brett Ratner, Brian Grazer, Tommy Hilfiger, Ron Howard, Stoute and more.
*As of 12:01 a.m. Oct. 21, gay marriage became legal in New Jersey and that state’s senator-elect, Cory Booker, is one of the officials officiating these new nuptials.
Back in September, it was Judge Mary Jacobson of the Mercer County Superior Court who ruled in favor of same-sex couples being allowed to marry starting Monday, Oct 21.
Gov. Chris Christie’s administration put in a request to have the legalization delayed within the state until the official legal appeal was final, but Jacobson denied the request.
According to BuzzFeed, as mayor of Newark, Booker started holding weddings on the first floor rotunda of City Hall right after the clock hits midnight, with about 10 couples who had already signed up to attend the event.
Booker joins like of other well-known figures to conduct same-sex marriages as Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg officiated the wedding of Kennedy Center President Michael M. Kaiser and economist John Roberts in August.
According to the AP, rising Democratic star Cory Booker has won a special election to represent New Jersey in the U.S. Senate.
The Newark mayor defeated Republican Steve Lonegan in an abbreviated campaign of stark policy and style differences.
Booker will become the first black senator from New Jersey. He is filling the seat left vacant by the death of Sen. Frank Lautenberg.
Booker has built a national following for his consensus-building and his personal story. He was a suburbanite who went to Stanford and Yale Law before moving into a tough Newark neighborhood promising to do good before he ran for office. He’s also been a pioneering politician on Twitter.
Lonegan is a conservative former mayor of the town of Bogota. He dismissed Booker as more connected to Hollywood and the Silicon Valley than New Jersey.
