I don’t think there is a person alive that watched The Academy Awards and don’t think Ellen DeGeneres is one of the greatest hosts the show has ever had.
The second-time host of the arguably most watched awards show coming out of Hollywood, has such a natural way with comedy; so down-played you don’t even know you’re in the midst of a skit until the people start laughing…and then you realize the joke is on you!
Not only did she get the munchies in the midst of the show and decide to order pizza for everyone within range of getting a Styrofoam plate (did the pizza guy look a little embarrassed to you?), but you’ve got to remember when she decided she wanted to “break a Twitter record” and rallied a group of folks together for a selfie?
Well the proud owner of that photo is wearing a big grin right now.
The fun continues at EURThisNThat.
*Oscar host Ellen DeGeneres announced on the live post-Oscar edition of her talk show Monday that Samsung would donate $3 million to charity in honor of her celebrity-selfie during the Academy Awards and its record-setting 3 million retweets.
The pic featured lots of famous people – Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Brangelina, Kevin Spacey, Jared Leto, Channing Tatum, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Lupita Nyong’o.
And then there was Nyong’o’s brother Peter…the lone unknown in the pic who ironically ended up in a much better spot than his sibling.
*A photo of President Obama hugging his wife Michelle Obama is no longer the most retweeted pic in Tw’istory…thanks to Ellen DeGeneres.
During last night’s Academy Awards telecast, the host got Meryl Streep, then Julia Roberts, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Lupita Nyong’o (and her ecstatic brother) to take a selfie in the aisle in an attempt to break Twitter’s retweet record.
Before Cooper pressed the button, Jared Leto, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Kevin Spacey had jumped in it.
*Oscar nominee Lupita Nyong’o, the breakout star of awards season this year, was a guest on “Ellen” Friday and addressed reports that she’s dating fellow nominee Jared Leto.
“You’re actually in tabloids which means you’ve really made it, because there’s rumors that you and Jared Leto are together,” Ellen told the “12 Years a Slave” beauty.
Nyong’o replied, “Ah, but I thought Miley Cyrus broke us up. That was the last thing I heard.”
*As moviegoers gear up to watch this year’s Academy Awards, Entertainment Weekly is setting the stage for the event with Oscar hopefuls Cate Blanchett and Lupita Nyong’o gracing the cover.
In the issue, the pair discuss the never-ending award season, what they love most about their jobs and their hopes for the future.
*Bruno Mars didn’t like critics coming for him before his Super Bowl halftime performance.
One in particular he found to be “disgusting” and it came from the New York Times.
Mars stopped by “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” to address his critics and specifically the NY Times.
