*Emeli Sande is among the acts who will perform special in-flight concerts on one of Richard Branson’s airlines to mark the 40th anniversary of the business mogul’s record label.
The British entrepreneur will mark 40 years since the launch of Virgin Records by lining up a number of the company’s artists, including Sande, for a series of special mid-air shows on his U.K. domestic airline Little Red.
The concerts will take place on flights connecting London to Manchester in England, as well as Edinburgh and Aberdeen in Scotland, and rocker Mike Oldfield is also among the artists on the bill.
“Virgin Records is where it all started for Virgin, and 40 years later it’s great to see we are still being innovative,” Branson says. “This exciting series of events is the perfect way to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Virgin Records and the artists, from Mike Oldfield to Emeli Sande, who continue to disrupt the status quo.”
More acts will be announced in the coming weeks before the gigs kick off in September.

*Singer-songwriter Emeli Sande has broken The Beatles’ long-standing record for the most consecutive weeks spent in the top ten of the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart.
The Scottish songstress’s Brit Award-winning debut album “Our Version of Events,” released in February 2012, has held a slot in the charts for 63 consecutive weeks, beating the previous record held by the Fab Four for their release “Please Please Me,” which spent 62 weeks somewhere in the top 10 between 1963 and 1964.
Sande’s “Our Version of Events” has gone on to become the bestselling album of 2012 in the U.K. with over 1.82 million copies sold, according to the Official Albums Chart.
In an interview with the Official Charts Company, Sande described herself as being completely lost for words.
“The Beatles are the greatest band of all time and their legacy lives on and continues to inspire all of us that make music,” she said. “I’m so happy that so many people have connected with the stories and the songs on the record, this really is our version of events now. I’d like to say thank you to everyone that has bought, played or shared my music in the last year, without your support this would never have been possible.”
*Building buzz for director Baz Luhrmann’s reimagining of “The Great Gatsby,” the powers that be have released a sampler for the soundtrack overseen by Jay-Z.
Both Jay Z and his wife Beyonce have tracks on the album, but they are not included in the sampler posted to YouTube yesterday by Interscope/Geffen/A&M. As previously reported, Beyonce covers Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black” and Hov contributed a song called “$100 Bill.”
You won’t hear those in the sampler, but it does contain 30-second snippets of other tracks from the soundtrack, including Emeli Sande’s re-working of Beyonce’s “Crazy In Love” (with the Bryan Ferry Orchestra), “Together” by The XX and “Young and Beautiful” by Lana Del Rey.
A press release reveals: “Jay Z (with collaborator and the film’s executive music consultant Jeymes Samuel) has worked with Luhrmann and his team on the project over the past two years, translating the Jazz Age sensibility of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel into the musical equivalents of our own times, through the blending of hip-hop, traditional jazz and other contemporary musical textures.”

Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake on the set of the “Suit & Tie” video shoot
*Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake will headline this summer’s Wireless festival at London’s Olympic Park, concert promoter Live Nation said Tuesday.
The artists, who recently performed their current single “Suit & Tie” at the Grammy Awards, are the first lead acts confirmed for concerts at the Olympic Park after the live events giant struck a deal for exclusive rights to organize music events there last month, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Timberlake will headline the Wireless festival lineup on Friday, July 12. He’ll be joined by Snoop Dogg, Trey Songz, John Legend and special guest Frank Ocean.
Jay-Z will lead the July 13 lineup, with Emeli Sande, Rita Ora, Kendrick Lamar, DJ Fresh and Calvin Harris also confirmed for that day.
The Wireless festival organizers said Jay-Z’s London appearance would be his only European performance this year, while Timberlake’s gig would be his only U.K. festival show of the summer.
