*Following the recent unauthorized release of the now infamous “I Admit It” album, R. Kelly’s team says it happened because thieves stole hundreds of the jailed singer’s master recordings. The unauthorized album has 13 tracks.

A police report indicates that the report about the missing master recordings in question was filed in February. They were swiped from a storage facility in Illinois, according to the police report. The report was prepared after a man who identified himself as Keith Calbert called to report a theft. He told the police that he oversees the Kelly property being stored in the warehouse. He also said several of the singer’s recordings worth millions of dollars were missing.

Calbert also revealed to the police that 9 months earlier, two roadies removed the masters from the warehouse and took them to California. He said he had urged one of the roadies to return them, but he was in turn asked to pay $1600,000 to hget the recordings back.

Calbert even showed the police the 10 empty shelves that used to be completely full. He estimated the missing recordings to be between 300-500.

But the question that some people might be asking is why the team waited until now to make the report. The case had been closed without arrests after the investigations seemed to lead nowhere. Meanwhile, R. Kelly’s legal team says they are trying to find out who uploaded the music to Spotify and Apple Music. They hold the 2 roadies as prime suspects.

The 13-song album hit streaming services by complete surprise. Ingrooves, a distributor owned by Universal Music Group and without ties to Sony Music, released the album, according to Billboard.

In the lyrics, Kelly addresses the various allegations leveled against him that have landed him a 30-year prison sentence.
