Jamie Foxx and Quvenzhane Wallis in “Annie”
*The first trailer has been released for the upcoming “Annie” remake, with Oscar nominee Quvenzhane Wallis in the title role. Also, the first clip has surfaced from the Jimi Hendrix film “All Is By My Side” starring Outkast’s Andre 3000.
Like the classic 1977 musical, Columbia’s modern-day “Annie” update follows 11-year-old little orphan Annie (“Beasts of the Southern Wild’s” Wallis), who has a chance encounter with wealthy businessman Benjamin Stacks (Jamie Foxx), an update on the Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks character.
Turns out Benjamin, who’s running for mayor, needs a feel-good story to boost his stock; that’s where Annie comes in. Meanwhile, Cameron Diaz takes on the mean-spirited orphanage owner Miss Hannigan. Rose Byrne and Bobby Canavale co-star.
*If you believe the tabloids, then the friendship of Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx has been derailed over allegations that Foxx is stepping out with his ex-wife Katie Holmes.
The National Enquirer was first to claim that Foxx has been secretly seeing the actress, even spending nights at her New York apartment. Although Jamie insisted at the time he wasn’t dating his “Collateral” co-star’s ex, published reports have subsequently claimed that they were together during Super Bowl weekend.
And Tom is said to be furious about it.
Could Tyrese have starred in Django Unchained instead of Jamie Foxx?
*I know first hand how hard it is for an actor to rehearse so diligently for an audition, finally get seen by the powers-that-be in what they consider a to die for kind of role; get a callback but ultimately no booking.
Aaaarrrgggghhhhh!!! It’s a terrible, defeatist kind of feeling. But actors get use to it because it happens a lot.
Jamie Foxx as Electro in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″
*Columbia dropped a new teaser trailer on New Year’s Eve for “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” this one focused on Jamie Foxx’s Electro battling the superhero through a tourist-filled Times Square.
The minute-long teaser begins with hyped 91-year-old Spider-Man comics creator Stan Lee. “I don’t know about you, but I am so excited about this, and I won’t waste any more of your time!” he says before the teaser opens with a New Year Eve’s countdown in Times Square.
Electro, who gets off on power currents, derails the fun by siphoning off electricity…before being encountered by Spider-Man.
