“I’ve Done Too Much Good … To Deserve That Treatment”
*Keke Palmer knows the power of her celebrity and is not ashamed to say that she is very conscious about maintaining a positive image for her fans.
Which explains why the 20-year-old entertainer took time out from filming her upcoming movie “Brotherly Love” to address those responsible for peddling a (fake) sex tape, claiming it features her.
*Queen Latifah‘s Flavor Unit shingle is releasing “Brotherly Love,” a drama set in the City of Brotherly Love, according to Deadline.com.
In West Philadelphia, born-and-raised basketball star Sergio Taylor (Eric D. Hill Jr.) deals with the early pressures of fame. Alongside older brother June (Cory Hardrict), who lost his own hoop dreams to the streets to provide for the family after their father’s death, and sister Jackie (“CrazySexyCool‘s” Keke Palmer), whose own musical ambitions are sidetracked by love, Sergio faces life-altering decisions on the streets of Philly known as “The Top” and “The Bottom.”
The film, written and directed by Jamal Hill, is set against the backdrop of Philly’s famed Overbrook High School, whose real-life alumni include Will Smith and Wilt Chamberlain.
Flavor Unit Entertainment, Jacavi Films, and Electric Republic are producing with Queen Latifah, Shakim Compere, Shelby Stone, Yaneley Arty, Jacob York, and Rene Garcia aboard as exec producers.
Romeo Miller, Logan Browning, Eric Hill, Quincy Brown, Faizon Love, Macy Gray, and Malik Yoba also star.
Vanessa Williams, Cicely Tyson and Cuba Gooding Jr. in Broadway’s The Trip to Bountiful
*This year’s Tony Award nominated Broadway revival hit The Trip to Bountiful is currently in production in Atlanta for a television adaptation to premiere on Lifetime in 2014.
The film stars original cast members Cicely Tyson and Vanessa Williams who are joined by Blair Underwood in Cuba Gooding Jr.’s old role and Keke Palmer replacing Condola Rashad, the network announced today. Tyson also serves as an executive producer.
The play’s director, Michael Wilson, will make his television directorial debut with this project.
Author Horton Foote’s “The Trip to Bountiful,” set during the final years of the Jim Crow South, tells of one woman’s quest to reconnect with her past in order to ensure her family’s future.
Cicely Tyson and Condola Rashad in Broadway’s The Trip to Bountiful
Carrie Watts (Tyson) begrudgingly lives with her busy, overprotective son, Ludie (Underwood) and her snooty daughter-in-law, Jessie Mae (Williams). No longer able to drive and forbidden to travel alone, she wishes for freedom from the confines of the house and begs her son to take her on a visit to her hometown of Bountiful. When he refuses, Mrs. Watts is undeterred and makes an escape to the local bus station, where she befriends Thelma (Palmer), a young woman traveling home. When Ludie and Jessie Mae discover she is gone, they call in law enforcement to help, but Mrs. Watts is one step ahead of them and convinces the local sheriff to help her on her journey home to Bountiful.
The Trip to Bountiful closed its triumphant Broadway run on October 9.
*Keke Palmer was spotted recently in New York wearing what looks to be a blue leather pencil skirt. Classy, grown up and chic, the dress is definitely versatile for a day and night look.
In the meantime, Keke and her cohorts are currently promoting their new VH1 movie, “Crazy Sexy Cool.” She and Lil Mama, who’s rocking the green hair lately, were on the “Wendy Williams Show” chatting about the movie and their experience making movie magic together.
