Actress Kimberly Elise and Angela Logan speak onstage during the ‘Apple Mortgage Cake’ panel discussion at the UP portion of the 2014 Winter Television Critics Association tour at the Langham Hotel on January 11, 2014 in Pasadena, California
*In 2009, Angela Logan made national headlines when she decided to sell her homemade apple cakes in an effort to keep her home out of foreclosure.
The model and actress first fell on hard times when one of her talent agencies shut down without paying her for commercial work. In 2007, a contractor she paid to renovate her home did just a portion of the job before splitting with all of the money – leaving her entire second floor looking like an abandoned construction site.
It was then that the 55-year-old divorced mother of three began to fall behind on her mortgage and other bills. A counselor at Consumer Credit Counseling of New Jersey brainstormed with her to come up with ways she could earn extra income.
“I put together a plan to go back to school, to do hair, and to sell the cakes,” Logan told the TCA at its press tour in Pasadena on Saturday. “The cakes were like the final thing because school was going to happen later. The hair was not enough money. And I said what if I sell these cakes?”

*Production continues this week near Toronto, Canada on the UP Original Movie “Apple Mortgage Cake,” starring Kimberly Elise in the true story of Angela Logan who when faced with foreclosure, set a goal to bake 100 cakes in 10 days to save her home.
A five-year-old Angela Logan (Millie Davis) is in her grandmother Nellie’s (Darlene Cooke) kitchen in New Jersey learning how to make apple cake and discovering the joys of baking. Nellie tells Angela: “Cake makes people happy. One bowl, one mixer, and the right company, and you’re set free for life.”
Thirty-five years later, Angela ( Elise) is a single, working mom with three teenage boys, Marcus (A.J. Saudin), William, (Stephan James) and Nicolas (Lamar Johnson). She juggles various jobs and helps with employment counseling at the local Mission. While thrilled to be in the family home where she learned to bake, the house is falling apart, with sections deemed uninhabitable by inspectors after storm and flood damage.

*Oh yes, a new, longer teaser was released for VH1’s newest scripted hour-long drama, “Hit the Floor,” starring Taylour Paige, Charlotte Ross, Logan Browninghas and Dean Cain.
But where’s Kimberly Elise, the one we all thought was supposed to be the star.
Maybe we’ll give it a pass since the show’s emphasis is on the young dancers and targets the modern crowd.
The show is about the lives and loves of the Los Angeles Devil Girls, the dance team for the No.1 professional basketball team in the country. Ahsha (Taylour Paige) is the star, a sheltered young woman who joins the team despite the wishes of her mother Sloane (Kimberly Elise). Olivia (Charlotte Ross) is the shrewd squad manager, Jelena (Logan Browning) is the ruthless star captain of the dance team and Pete Davenport (Dean Cain) is the former All-Star who’s come back to coach his old team, only to have to contend with the girls both stealing the spotlight and distracting his players.
“Hit the Floor” is said to be the biggest scripted effort for the network.
The series premiered May 27th
