*“My foundation is from the church,” said gospel singer, Tre’ Thomas. The District of Columbia resident has been making an impact in the industry with his musical talents, radio persona and community awareness.
The New Orleans native infuses his fresh R&B sensibilities with messages that address real-life issues and has upstart a musical movement that breaks down walls separating gospel and worldly music. Taking this approach, Thomas wants to stay true to what he knows artistically without overshadowing the overall message in his music. “I don’t want to be your average gospel artist, but I want to stay true in the R&B perspective,” said Thomas. Graduating from Howard University and an active member of the Howard Gospel Choir, Thomas was afforded the opportunity to sing background with Ted & Sherri and Maurette Brown-Clark to name a few. Starting his career background, Thomas has come to the forefront in his own act.
“Richard Smallwood featured me on his last project, “Journey-Live in New York” and it was a great intro into the industry,” said Thomas. He went on and added that it is always good to work with other artists so that you can see their work ethic and improve on your own craft when referring to other artists such as Tye Tribbett and DeWayne Woods.
Along with working with all these artists the singer was featured on the 30th anniversary of BET’s Bobby Jones Gospel and he hosts his own online radio show, “LoveLudes” on the award winning Bonnerfide Radio where he contributes to philanthropic causes such as working with the National Black Leadership Commission on HIV/AIDS. “I want to make sure that I am using my platform and my influence to make changes in the community effectively,” said Thomas.
His latest accomplishment was performing at the Blues Alley lounge in DC on July 5th where he performed songs such as his hit single, “My First Love” and other songs from his debut album, “A Natural Contrast.” The Blues Alley has hosted music greats Ella Fitzgerald, Phyllis Hyman and Brian McKnight. “I’ve watched a lot of artists perform on that stage and there are no words for the feelings I had other than it being very overwhelming,” said Thomas. “The history of that stage and to have that actual platform and being a Christian artist was great.”
With the following that Tre’ Thomas has and audiences new to his music, he wants to leave them with a great impression and overall message of his music. “God loves you no matter what or where you are in life or circumstance, god loves you,” said Thomas.
Tre’ Thomas album, “A Natural Contrast” is available on iTunes and he will be releasing a second album that is currently in the progress later this year.
