*Just days before the post-Super Bowl episode of “New Girl” featuring Prince makes its debut, Fox gave us an all-access pass to exclusive audio clips from Sunday’s show.
But first things first. How in the world did Prince end up on “New Girl”?
“Well it’s been kind of a long time coming because Prince had been in touch and he said he liked the show,” said star Zooey Deschanel.
Prince’s manager first contacted her via email.
*Fox just released this pic of Prince from the set of “New Girl.”
As previously reported, the artist will guest star on the Feb. 2 episode immediately following the Super Bowl.
Actress Hannah Simone arrives to the 2014 Fox All-Star Party at the Langham Hotel on January 13, 2014 in Pasadena, California
*We caught up with “New Girl” star Hannah Simone to get more details about the appearance of His Royal Badness on the show’s coveted Feb. 2 episode.
“We found out that we were going to air after the Super Bowl, which was phenomenal,” the actress told us. “And then they’re like, ‘Oh, P.S., Prince is going to be in the episode because he’s a fan of the show.’ I mean it was just a surreal experience.”
Simone – who plays Cece, the best friend of Zooey Deschanel’s Jess – confirmed that Prince will indeed play himself in the episode. “Would you believe Prince as anyone but Prince?” joked the actress at FOX’s TCA party Monday.
*Who knew Prince was a fan of Fox’s “New Girl.”
The purple one is set to make his first-ever appearance in a television sitcom, and has chosen the post-Super Borl episode of “New Girl” for this momentous occasion.
According to E! News, Prince will play himself and have some sort of involvement with Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Nick (Jake Johnson).
Prince’s acting resume had previously included feature films only: “Purple Rain,” “Under the Cherry Moon” and “Graffiti Bridge.”
Fox announced in October that “New Girl” and the Golden Globe-nominated “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” will follow the Super Bowl on Feb. 2, 2014.
(L-R) Lamorne Morris, Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield and Damon Wayans in Fox’s “New Girl” (Airdate: Nov. 5, 2013)
*“New Girl” co-star Damon Wayans, Jr., who returned to the show for an arc this fall, will continue on the Fox comedy for the rest of the season, reports Deadline.com.
He is expected to be in every episode but is billed as a special guest star, leaving him available for pilot season. (He is executive producing a comedy project at Fox, which he could potentially star in.)
Wayans Jr. did the “New Girl” pilot in second position to his ABC series “Happy Endings.” But when ABC surprisingly renewed “Happy Endings,” producers at “New Girl” opted not to recast his character, but instead create a new one – played in episode 2 and beyond by Lamorne Morris.
Damon Wayans in Fox’s “New Girls”
When Wayans Jr. became available following the cancellation of “Happy Endings” in May, he was invited to come back to “New Girl” for a four-episode arc, which began airing last night.
Coincidentally, last night “New Girl” had a 11% ratings spike in adults 18-49 and hit a season high in Men 18-34.
