*Another piece of history unfolds on the stage and FREE tickets have been made available.
This announcement came exclusively to EURweb from Wren T. Brown, founder of the Ebony Repertory Theatre (ERT), a recently formed Equity Company, that is the Resident Company and Operator of the Nate Holden Performing Arts Center, under the artistic direction of Israel Hicks.
ERT’s commitment is to bring diverse, high standard, professional performing arts to the Mid-City community, as well as the greater Los Angeles area, to engender business development along the Washington Boulevard corridor, and to make the Nate Holden Performing Arts Center Los Angeles’ Newest Cultural Destination!
Now that the company’s mission is established, six years later the task is to garner continued enthusiasm for the quality productions that take the stage there. Currently Wren T. Brown urges support for the vast array of theatrical presentations going on all over Los Angeles, especially the Ebony Rep and it’s encore production of “Fraternity” by Jeff Stetson, and directed by Henry Miller.
Wren, an accomplished actor, producer & director, passionately refers to the Langston Hughes quote, which famously asks: “What happens to a dream deferred?” Wren speaks his heart, mind and soul as it relates to preserving our culture on the stage, and why it is so important to act now by making sure that each of these productions play to a packed house!
Wren Brown to EURweb: “Today one might ask what happens to black artists and their art if their work isn’t sufficiently supported. There has been a recent Renaissance in black theater with many plays being produced throughout the country to critical acclaim. But such acclaim is meaningless if patrons don’t continue to fill empty seats and provide opportunities for those works to reach larger audiences over extended periods of time. The Ebony Repertory Theatre is currently producing Jeff Stetson’s award-winning play, “Fraternity,” with an extraordinary cast seldom seen on any stage.”
