Diana Ross and Billy Dee Williams on set of Mahogany, 1975
*A remake of the 1975 Diana Ross film “Mahogany” is reportedly in the works from former Motown executive and producer Suzanne de Passe, reports BET.
Motown founder Berry Gordy directed the original, which starred Ross as Tracy, a Chicago native who dreams of becoming a fashion designer. Her rising international fame takes her to Rome, where she becomes torn between maintaining her relationship with hometown boyfriend Brian (Billy Dee Williams) or pursuing her burgeoning career.
Suzanne de Passe and her partner Phillip Madison Jones are looking to reboot “Mahogany” for their De Passe-Jones Entertainment, which is currently producing an adaptation of Star Jones’ novel “Satan’s Sisters” and a Martin Luther King Jr. biopic with Steven Spielberg.
The talk show host and television diva is hopping into the movie producer’s seat to try her hand at making movies.
She plans to team with Suzanne de Passe and Madison Jones for a television show series based on Star Jones’ novel, “Satan’s Sisters.”
This is just the beginning of something bigger, though. The all-lady-trio is aiming to begin making some multicultural magic all under the “Wendy Williams Presents” name.
“We are looking forward to a long and fruitful relationship with de Passe Jones Entertainment and adding to their stellar and lengthy string of highly successful films,” Wendy said.
As part of the beginning of the new partnership, or trio, the ladies may initiate the transformation of Star’s novel to a series to a film.
If you don’t know, Suzanne de Passe is probably most recognized for producing “Sister Sister” and the TV movies, “The Temptations” and “The Jacksons.” Madison Jones’ credits include being executive producer of President Obama’s Commander-in-Chief Inaugural Ball.
*Just when you thought the drama was over, Star Jones signed a deal to make her novel, “Satan’s Sister” into a television show.
The former talk show host told Wendy Williams that she’s pretty excited about the project.
“You were really one of the first supporters of ‘Satan’s Sisters,’” she told Wendy Williams. “So I’m going to tell you something that maybe I’m not supposed to. This will be the first time that I’ve said it out loud. They are turning it into a television show. I can’t tell you anymore yet, but it is a done deal.”
She didn’t share anymore of the details. So we’re just going to have to wait until it’s all official.
*It’s been a long, hard season of work for celebrity Star Jones. So now it’s time for her to get a little vacation this Summer.
She recently wrapped up her fictional novel “Satan’s Sisters” a story about the backstage going-ons of a daytime talk show. On top of that, we can’t forget her impressive appearance on “Celebrity Apprentice.” Oh the drama.
“I’m going to go to Europe in August. A friend of mine is doing a celebration cruise throughout the Mediterranean with 100 friends,” Star told essence.com during the 4th Annual Reginald F. Lewis Foundation Gala Luncheon in the Hamptons.
And rest is just what the doctor ordered. With all the stress she’s been going through lately, the getaway is exactly what she needs, especially after undergoing a life-changing heart surgery last year.
She said the experience was quite revealing.
“The doctors took my heart out of my chest for 22 minutes. It made me really appreciate life,” she said.
But while the rest is long overdue, she’s already lining up her work plans after the break.
