*Ted Williams, the former homeless man and radio announcer dubbed “the man with the golden voice,” has reason to celebrate the New Year.
Williams, who for years struggled with drug and alcohol addiction, was discovered as he begged for change in traffic in Columbus, Ohio. He has now accepted a job offer as the voice of New England Cable News (NECN), according to ET online.
Williams received a shower of job offers after a YouTube video featuring his resonant voice went viral last year. But the father of nine said it was “too much, too soon.” After undergoing drug and alcohol counseling, it seems Williams is back on track with the help of his girlfriend and sober living coach.
And that’s not all—Williams has started a charitable foundation, finished a book proposal and is shopping a reality show called “Second Chance at Life.”
*After his instant celebrity status, the golden voice guy, Ted Williams is going back to rehab, again.
He told 10TV News that he is going back to the Origins Recovery Center in South Padre Island, Texas for his battle against his drug and alcohol addiction (scroll down to watch).
It’s the same place Dr. Phil arranged for him to attend back in January. The talk show host offered to pay his way.
“I’m going back to get some real recovery and some rest,” Williams said. “Dr. Phil’s concerns and cares will not go in vain. I hope I can successfully complete this whole journey and come back and say, ‘Hey Dr. Phil. I did it.’”
Williams stayed at the facility for less than two weeks. Now on his way back, he isn’t sure if Dr. Phil’s offer is still on the table, but with his job, he can make it happen.
This time he plans to stay for at least 30 days.
*In the name of MetroPCS, a growing cell phone service provider, Snoop Dogg, Warren G and Ted “Golden Voice” Williams came together to film an ad.
The video features model Brittany Dailey and the trio of artists introducing the Samsung Galaxy Indulge.
“It feels good to be working with MetroPCS and Samsung for the launch of the Galaxy Indulge. I’m stepping it up to 4G’s so my phone can keep up with my demanding, always-connected lifestyle,” says Snoop.
The ad is actually a short story of three episodes where game show host Warren G, attempts to hook Brittany up with one of three candidates on the G Connection.
Fans also get the chance to participate in a sweepstakes to hang with Snoop. Details available at any MetroPCS store.
*Ted Williams, the homeless man with the Golden Voice, has just signed on to star in a reality series that will follow his struggle to stay clean and sober, reports TMZ.
A rep for Williams (yes, he has one) says the show will be called “Second Chances at Life.” It will document how the one-time on-air talent went from a promising radio career – to living on the streets – to becoming a YouTube sensation.
The series will also follow Ted’s life as he battles to rebuild his career and personal life.
According to TMZ, the show will be shot in three different locations: Brooklyn (his hometown), Ohio (where he was homeless) and Los Angeles.
Also, Ted’s rep says they’re already planning season two — when they’ll introduce other people who deserve a second chance.
*The Ohio homeless man whose deep voice made him a web phenomenon is currently in a sober house after leaving rehab and says he’s still fielding job offers.
Ted Williams said on CBS’ “Early Show” Wednesday that he’s “trying to keep a level head and possibly come to one decision.”
He says he felt that going to rehab was a “rushed decision” and he left after two weeks. He had agreed to go after a televised interview with Dr. Phil McGraw.
Williams says he’s living at a sober house in California and hopes to do voiceover work there. He didn’t say what his job offers were.
He says he’s working to redevelop relationships with his children and that the problems he had are behind him.
