*You can never go wrong with LisaRaye. She keeps it real, but in the classiest way.
In an interview with Essence.com, the dynamic actress/fashionista updates her fans about the show “Single Ladies,” all the juicy details in her love life, and of course her latest career move back into fashion.
“This is not my first introduction into fashion, I had a lingerie line about seven years ago that I did a great fashion show for during New York Fashion Week. But then when I got married and became the First lady of Turks and Caicos Islands, I decided that title and lingerie didn’t match that well.”
She went on saying that several years later she was approached by PZI and fell in love with the line’s jeans. After that, there was no looking back. Since that moment, she’s become a partner in designing products.
And you have to know she’s going to have her signature white throughout the line.
*Actress and business woman LisaRaye is letting loose her maternal instincts by managing her daughter Kai’s budding career on the fashion runway while launching her own clothing line with PZI Jeans®, called The LisaRaye Collection.
In preparation for the launch this summer, LisaRaye came to Los Angeles to select models with curves to wear her signature white jeans – a brand that will fit the contour of women who have hips and small waists, without the dreaded gapping in the rear. The jeans will be available in sizes 4-18 and lengths short to extra long.
“Women need a jean like this because not all of us are a size 2 or a size 4 or a size 6 and we always have that problem in the waist,” said LisaRaye, who fell in love with the PZI brand from the moment she first tried a pair on. “These jeans FIT! I’m putting on my designer hat and I’m really excited about it!”

Meanwhile, daughter Kai is standing tall as the new face of the latest Apple Bottoms® by Nelly campaign for full-figured women. LisaRaye was by her side during her first photo shoot with celebrity photographer Derek Blanks to provide modeling tips to help her achieve the best shot.
“I’m actually supporting Kai and teaching her at the same time because mommy has been there, done that,” said LisaRaye. “I’m excited that she’s embraced her own curves and who she is. This is not something that I have given her. This is something that she is earning for herself and I’m very proud.”

In describing to a dating service what she wanted in a man she said she’s looking for a man that’s powerful because if he’s powerful that means he’s got money.
Commenting on a man’s anatomy she also said, “…if you’re too big that hurts…he’s thrusting in you, and you backin’ up! Just find my ‘G’ spot; let’s hit it; let’s make love.”
Lisa Raye has to be concerned that some bloggers associate another comment she made – “I think it’s easier for a man to eat sushi because y’all so used to (bleep [oral sex]) – with her having problems (alluding to a ‘fishy’ smell) with her own personal hygiene.
Wow! Now I don’t think anyone would argue that LisaRaye is about as fine as they come – she’s drop-dead gorgeous! So inasmuch as she is supposedly on her so-called road to redemption, the only reason I can figure that she would make such comments is for ratings. She and the network surely had time to re-think how audiences would react to such remarks, and do some editing.
While I applaud LisaRaye for not apologizing for her beauty (“it’s a good thing I’m a pretty girl”), at times she comes across as a beautiful house but ain’t nobody home! Television’s unrelenting ratings war seems to be causing women to say and do things to perpetuate acceptance of ideals of beauty and behavior trumpeted by society that encourage women who don’t have half the looks of a LisaRaye, to contort their body language and conversation, and make them even less attractive than they really are. Could it be that LisaRaye intends to use her beauty to take women viewers down their own path to a wholesome self-discovery? We’ll stay tuned for that from the “runaway diva”.
Meanwhile, a friend and colleague Valencia Burch authored a book titled “Stop Ho-N: The Redemption of a Woman’s Worth“, which is a literary journey of redemption from one who is also “drop-dead gorgeous”. Burch sets out to re-define a woman’s worth as more than a man’s view of her, and what’s between her legs. In her book she writes, “Many women have minimized sex to a weapon or a tool, which she could use to control, confuse, or get a man. Why is your body one of the first things offered or requested?” She also states, “The messages carried in television, print ads, radio, and movies carry strong definitions of what our image, and lifestyle should resemble to be acceptable, successful, or attractive.”
Maybe someone could slip a copy of Burch’s book to LisaRaye (from one “diva” to another if you will) and her producers, to help bring some real meaningful dialog to the fore of the highly-rated reality show.
A visibly upset LisaRaye McCoy discusses her ex-husband
*Actress LisaRaye’s new reality show, “LisaRaye: The Real McCoy,” is set to premiere this Thursday, April 8 at 9pm Eastern on TV One.
We’ve seen several promos for the show and it looks like she’s not holding back.
Check out this clip where she candidly discusses her ex, Michael Missick, and how his shenanigans put her in a trick bag. To say she’s pissed is an understatement.

Here are some more promos, including one that shows the diva throwing a hissy fit and threatening to cancel a big fashion show appearance.
Here’s more info on the series:
SILVER SPRING, MD — She’s got the face of a goddess, the bearing of a diva – and she’s edgy, blunt, soft and sophisticated all at once. LisaRaye, the beautiful, outspoken star of film and television and First Lady of the Turks and Caicos, is moving forward with her new life, and the unvarnished journey is captured in her new TV One reality series, LisaRaye: The Real McCoy, slated to premiere Thursday, April 8 at 9 PM ET.
Filmed in Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington, DC and Atlanta, the new reality series follows the star of TV One’s All of Us as she works to fully re-establish her critically-acclaimed acting career, while balancing a far-flung and complex personal life. The half-hour, eight episode series will repeat Thursdays at midnight, Sundays at 7 PM, Fridays at 3 PM, Saturdays at 1 PM, Mondays at noon, and Wednesdays at 4 AM (all times ET).
The chic and elegant lady usually dressed in her trademark white came to Los Angeles from her native Chicago more than a decade ago, and got a taste of stardom and strong reviews in Ice Cube’s The Players Club. Later she scored leading roles in The Wood, Civil Brand and other films. More TV and film roles followed, including the role of Neesee in the popular sitcom All of Us.
It wasn’t until LisaRaye married the Premier of the Turks & Caicos in 2006, however, that she went from living a charmed Hollywood life to the life of a princess… or, rather, the First Lady of a nation. There were mansions, private jets and visits with the Queen of England. There were butlers, maids, servants and, while she never completely gave up the Hollywood casting calls, she had duties to perform as First Lady. But in an instant it was over. Rumors of infidelity and allegations of illegal behavior swirled around her husband and brought trouble to paradise. Confusion, pain and tears followed. . . and now there is no marriage, no private jet… and no starring role. . .but LisaRaye is not one to look back, or sit back and feel sorry for herself.
TV One viewers will be able to follow LisaRaye on her journey as she reclaims the life and lifestyle she so loves. In addition to focusing on her acting career, she’s got to help her 19-year-old daughter Kai deal with the challenges of transitioning to adulthood; keep her incarcerated sister, the rapper Da Brat, on point; and take care of her ailing mother, while tending to her own personal life and perhaps look for a little romance along the way.
In addition to the lady in white, her daughter Kai, and her assistant Quincy, the series is replete with an eclectic array of interesting characters, not to mention celebrities, including Jamie Foxx, Rev. Al Sharpton, Laila Ali, actor/comedian Tony Rock, rapper Lil Jon, music producer Jazzy Phe, director Bille Woodruff, fashion designer Sue Wong, LisaRaye’s fashion stylist Joe eXclusive and Sister2Sister Magazine editor Jamie Foster Brown.
From a foray on the fashion runway to a black rodeo relay race to a virgin skydiving adventure, viewers will always be surprised at where they may find LisaRaye, whose zest for life is as irrepressible as her reputation for telling it like it is. One thing is for sure: viewers can always expect the unexpected, because that’s the real McCoy.
The series is produced for TV One by Evolution Media. Executive producers are Douglas Ross, Gregory Stewart, Kathleen French, LisaRaye McCoy and Datari Turner. Co-executive producers are Alex Baskin, Susan Seide and Larry Kennar, and the series is directed by Oji Singeltary. The show was created by Datari Turner. Executive in charge of production for TV One is Jubba Seyyid.
*Kirk Whalum has released a two-disk CD with accompanying HD DVD of a live performance held at Reid Temple AME Church near Washington, DC titled “The Gospel According to Jazz, Chapter II.” This is a collection of musical testimonies in a multitude of musical styles with an overlay of Whalum’s signature sax playing. This eight-time Grammy Award nominee is sure to receive honors for this project which provokes Spiritual images that I am sure are different for everyone who listens.
“We have to remember…what we are called to do,” said Kirk Whalum, a two-time Stellar Award and one-time Dove Award winner. “You put your art and heart on the line. That’s what we do as artists.”
Putting his art and heart on the line is just what was done that day when the Top Drawer/Rendezvous project was recorded. Kirk enlisted the assistance of the heavenly vocals of Lalah Hathaway (Stax Records); the smooth sultry vocals of Kirk’s brother Kevin Whalum; George Duke on piano; Doc Powell on guitar; the vocals of his uncle sax player/vocalist Hugh “Peanut” Whalum; Kevin Whalum, III on tenor sax; Kyle Whalum on electric bass; his nephew rapper Caleb Tha Bridges; T.D. and Serita Jakes with spoken-word duet, and vocalist/keyboardist John Stoddart.
Combine all those blessings with Kirk Whalum woven throughout and you have a masterpiece in motion offering Contemporary, R&B, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Pop, and African Spiritual Gospel melodies. For me, as I know it will be for you too, just having Kirk’s skills on the sax (and flute) is enough to want to buy the CD – he is the greatest horn player of our generation.
“God is pleased to participate in the creative process when we invite Him in,” Whalum points out about Gospel instrumentals. “Jazz music loves to create and God is the same. I always invite God in. God is open, God is a creative God. Just because He rested on the 7th day…He wasn’t finished, He didn’t retire!”
Just as God’s work is a “work in progress” so is Kirk Whalum who is currently attending Seminary School. This is his third “The Gospel According to Jazz” project. The first single off the “Chapter III” CD is one of my favorites on the project, “He’s Been Just That Good,” featuring Lalah Hathaway and written by husband and wife songwriting team Jonathan and Brandi Jackson.
My other favorites on the two-disk CD are “Fit to Battle” which had me visualizing myself in New Orleans marching to Glory, and low and behold when I read the history on the song I find Kirk wanted the listener to capture New Orleans; then there is the Celine Dion cover “Because you love me” one of those masterpieces – love that piano support as well; the Luther Vandross cover “Make me a believer,” with words slightly changed by one of the featured vocalist Kevin Whalum, and Lalah Hathaway; the Charlie Chapman cover “Smile, Part I” features the vocals of Uncle Peanut, which almost brought tears to my eyes it was so sweet; the B.B. King cover “The Thrill Is Gone” which Kirk goes just crazy on and Lalah Hathaway does the same as the featured vocalist, and the Stylistics cover “You are everything” with features the spoken words of T.D. and Serita Jakes – an intimate look into their third party marriage with God.
Television and film producer Datari Turner is set to air a new reality show on TV One, ‘The Real McCoy’
Datari Turner and LisaRaye
Television and film producer Datari Turner is set to air his newest reality show on TV One, “The Real McCoy,” on the day-to-day life of actress and former First Lady of Turks and Caicos, LisaRaye McCoy, as she focuses on her career and her daughter Kai. The show airs Thursday April 8, 2010 at 9:00 p.m. EST.
“I have known LisaRaye for ten years now,” Datari recalled about the day the subject of a reality show came up. “I always looked at her as a big sister; we’ve worked together and stayed in touch. I met up with her and we had lunch (after her divorce) and she had a lot to say. I have been producing a couple of reality shows and said, ‘LisaRaye I think it’s time for you to do a show, re-establish yourself as an actress.’ She said she liked the idea and we did eight episodes.”
LisaRaye is best known for her role in UPN’s “All of Us” and as Diamond in the film The Player’s Club with Jamie Foxx. A Chicago native, LisaRaye is also half sister of rapper DeBrat.
At an early age LisaRaye moved to Los Angeles and immediately landed roles on “The Martin Show” and “In the House.” She appeared in a music video of rapper Tupac and was seen by rapper/actor Ice Cube who placed her in The Players Club, which he directed.
Aside from “The Real McCoy” Datari is also releasing his first film “Video Girl” this year about the rise and fall of a video vixen. The film stars Meagan Good, Ruby Dee, Haylie Duff and Paul Victor. Other reality shows produced by Turner include BET’s “The Ultimate Hustler” and “I Married a Baller” with Tennessee Titan running back Eddie George and his wife Taj (from SWV). Future projects include a reality show starring Toccarra Jones (“American’s Next Top Model” and “Celebrity Fit Club”) and another film, a comedy, “Dysfunctional friends and a funeral.”
“I have to fight every day,” Datari said about the business of producing and creative television and film projects. “I am not where I want to be by a long shot. I made a lot of mistakes as a young producer. I was a model…I told people I wanted to be a writer and producer and they were shocked.”
Well this former Ford Model has made the transition better than those who have degrees in film and production. His projects have been aired and soon-to-be released. Not only that, but he is also a regular speaker at USC’s Film School.

This standout is well known for breaking into the business as a model for the prestigious Ford Modeling Agency. He can be seen in popular publications GQ, Rolling Stone, Maxim, Details, People Weekly, Today’s Black Woman, The Source and Vibe Magazine.

His credits include BET’s “The Ultimate Hustler” an urban reality TV show inspired by NBC’s The Apprentice; “I Married a Baller,” which showcases the lives of wives of famous athletes and highlighted Eddie George, former Tennessee Titan running back and his wife Taj George from R&B sensation SWV; and his first film “Video Girl” (which hits theaters in fall of 2010) about the rise and fall of a video vixen which stars Meagan Good, Ruby Dee, Haylie Duff, and Paul Victor.

Best known for her role on UPN’s “All of Us” and of “Diamond” in The Player’s Club, LisaRaye’s show “LisaRaye: The Real McCoy” will premiere on TV One in April of 2010. Datari is also producing an upcoming reality television show starring America’s Next Top Model and Celebrity Fit Club contestant Toccarra Jones. Another film in the works is “Dysfunctional Friends and a Funeral” about 10 friends who went to college together but have not spoken to each other in seven years until one friend unexpectedly dies from a freak skydiving accident. It’s no question Datari Turner is on the road to being noted along his role model producers Jerry Bruckheimer, Paula Wager, and David Geffen.
