*Jaleel White is still grinding over on the Syfy channel as host of the gross-out competition series “Total Blackout.”
The object is for four contestants to complete challenges in total darkness and in the fastest amount of time. Some are asked to reach blindly into boxes and correctly guess the substance filling the space. (It could be a sponge, a tarantula, or someone’s nasty foot, among other things). Others are tasked with identifying objects by smell or taste. There’s also the unnerving challenge of simply moving from one side of the room to the other. The winner gets $5,000.
In his two seasons as host, White has seen his share of people having serious nervous breakdowns.
“We have a shrink on the set,” White told EURweb earlier this month at the TCA Winter Press Tour in Pasadena. “We have certain people that try to back out at the last minute when they’re in the dark room. Fortunately, we have the power of editing, so if they wanna take 20 minutes, they can take 20 minutes. We tell them it’s just gonna hurt your time. Don’t forget this is a timed challenge. But we’ve seen it all. We’ve seen people freak out and lose their cookies.” [Scroll down to watch the show's Top Ten Freakouts.]
White says he’s also come to realize over the two seasons that certain types of people tend to win more than others — and it has everything to do with race.
“Total Blackout” airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. on Syfy. Watch the show’s Top Ten Flip Outs below.
