Such is the case with budding Broadway star Krystal Joy Brown. The Washington, DC area bred actress/singer has been rewarded with the biggest role of her young career.
According to reports, the Tony Award-nominated entertainer, who originally broke the news of her departure on Facebook, was six months into her run in the play when she learned of her diagnosis.
*Cicely Tyson, Patina Miller, Billy Porter and Valisia LeKae are among the nominees up for a 2013 Tony Award.
Tyson received a nod for Best Lead Actress in a Play for her starring role in “The Trip to Bountiful,” which itself was nominated for Best Revival of a Play. Pippen and its star Miller each picked up nods, as did LeKae of Motown The Musical, who faces Miller in the Best Lead Actress in a Musical category. LeKae plays Diana Ross in the Berry Gordy production.
Porter is nominated for Best Lead Actor in a Musical for his role in “Kinky Boots,” which leads all nominees with 13. The musical has a book by veteran writer/performer Harvey Fierstein and a score by first-time Broadway composer Cyndi Lauper.

*Producers of “Motown: The Musical” today announced that it will open on Broadway at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on April 14, 2013, with previews beginning March 11, 2013.
Tickets will go on sale to the general public October 1.
As previously reported, Motown: The Musical will be based on the life of legendary Motown founder Berry Gordy and feature hits from Diana Ross and The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, and Michael Jackson and The Jackson Five.
