*Ex-porn actress Sasha Grey (pictured) said she will not back out of a national elementary school reading program claiming she will not “live in fear” of her X-rated past, according to TMZ.
Grey participated in the “Read Across America” program at Emerson Elementary School in Compton, CA in early November.
Grey, who said she has not worked in porn for the past two years, once won an award for “Best Oral Sex” for her role in “Throat: A Cautionary Tale.”
She read “Dog Breath” by Dav Pilkey to 1st and 3rd grade children.
Parents were incensed that Grey read at the school flooding the institution with complaints.
Grey has since released a statement;
“Read Across America is a program that was designed to promote literacy and instill a lifelong love of reading in elementary school students. Promoting education is an effort that is close to my heart. Illiteracy contributes to poverty. Encouraging children to pick up a book is fundamental.
“I am committed to this program with the understanding that people would have their own opinions about what I have done, who I am and what I represent.”
Continuing, she said, “I am an actor. I am an artist. I am a daughter. I am a sister. I am a partner. I have a past that some people may not agree with, but it does not define who I am.
“I will not live in fear of it. To challenge non-profit education programs is an exercise in futility, counter-productive and anti-educational.”
In the meantime, Vivid Entertainment president Steven Hirsch has claimed that Grey is the porn version of African American baseball legend Jackie Robinson. The porn video honcho hopes Grey has opened the door for other adult stars to read books to kids.
Hirsch fired off a letter commending the school for allowing Grey to appear. In the letter, Hirsch suggests that the school invite two of his stars—Chyna and Allie Haze—as future volunteers.
TMZ said they have photos of Grey reading to the kids, but a representative for the school denies she ever appeared at the school.
