*Just like the headline says, this page/board is where you can discuss the stuff that we didn’t cover in today’s issue. (It’s sort of like feedback with a twist) Remember, NO name calling, racial taunting, graphic sex talk and vulgarity in general, PLEASE.
EUR MOTIVATIONAL NOTE
We may encounter many defeats but we must not be defeated. – Maya Angelou
Oct. 17: Reggae singer Ziggy Marley is 45. Rapper Eminem is 41. Singer Wyclef Jean of The Fugees is 41. Actress Sharon Leal (“Boston Public”) is 41.
Oct. 17, 1969: Dr. Clifton R. Wharton Jr. was elected president of Michigan State University and became the first African American to head a major, predominantly white university in the 20th century.
*Amanda Bynes may be getting hip hop veteran Wyclef Jean behind the boards as she prepares to launch herself as a rapper.
As previously reported, the troubled actress is close to finalizing a deal with Chinga Chang Records to release a rap album. Label head Daniel Herman is saying he is close to recruiting the former Fugees member to serve as producer.
Herman claims Wyclef has been “receptive” to the idea and adds, “I think (a collaboration) would be perfect. Linking the two of them will be something major.”
Herman is convinced that the project will prove all of her critics wrong: “This album is going to shock the world. She has such a great voice. Singers wish they could hit the notes that Amanda does.”
Bynes’ string of legal troubles began last year. She was involved in two hit-and-run dramas and an arrest for driving under the influence. She has since relocated to New York, but is currently facing charges for marijuana possession after cops arrested her at her Manhattan apartment in May. She also faces allegations of reckless endangerment after reportedly throwing a bong out of the window as officers raided her home following reports she had been smoking weed in the building’s lobby.
*Lauryn Hill got all turned up when the topic of Wyclef came up recently during a show in Dallas.
The Hip Hop queen never really addressed her former flame’s series of Lauryn banter, including the Jerry Springer-like baby-daddy confusion over her first child Zion. But she finally let loose on the washed up Haitian singer/politician (yeah I said it!).
“When you are on the other side of liberation, just make sure you are not late. Be careful how you judge, there is a lot of deception out there. A lot of misunderstanding out there. A lot of miscommunication out there. A lot of false information out there. And notice, out of all the people who talk talk talk, who’s the silent one,” she preached. “There’s a lot of chatter, but me…. And you know why? Let me tell you why I don’t chat back. Because I know that my brothers and my sisters are often times pawns in a bigger scheme so when they, under pressure, attack me, I love them still. It’s called the high road. Try taking it sometimes.”
Dang, she ain’t playin’ around.
“I’m not going to play my hand like the suppressive system would have me play my hand. Because I know [about] the oppression that took place in Haiti, and Jamaica, and America, and Africa and Europe. So just be patient. The truth always surfaces and especially, all you black folks out there who have had black mothers who carried you through thick and thin, when the system wanted to call them crazy, just remember that…You know I know I’m not crazy, that’s why I can use the word so freely. Crazy like a fox? Ahead of the curve. People don’t like people that’s ahead of the curve, but unfortunately that’s not my problem.”
*What was Wyclef thinking when he got on that bike almost naked?
He’s never been a sex icon and he won’t be. This photo should have never been taken.
Anyway, he decided to come out about why he posed in nothin’ but a Speedo; and shared it with everyone on Twitter, on his 43rd birthday.
“At 43, to look the way I look and feel the way I feel is incredible,” he told Power 105.1’s Breakfast Club.
When asked if posting the photo, which has since made him the butt of a thousand jokes, made him feel regretful, he proudly said he’s happy with it. “I don’t regret anything that I do. I’m enjoying myself.”
Besides that, the blogosphere is a little behind the times. The horrible, never-should-have-seen-the-light photo has been on his Facebook page for some time.
“First of all, the pic with the Speedo, that’s an old pic. I’m part of a bike club. Bike-Clef wore Speedos at the time. That’s actually an old photo shoot, and those photos are actually up on Facebook or Instagram,” he said. “This is actually a photo shoot for a company in Italy. I said ‘I turned 43, I feel 26′ based on that photo shoot that I had did. I’m telling you when I did the photo shoot so that you clear, right?”
Yeah, … no. Don’t do it again. Spare the children.
