*Before Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose officially became the NBA’s youngest Most Valuable Player winner on Tuesday (May 3), fellow hometown native Yung Berg had already honored the basketball star with “Derrick Rose,” a new single from his upcoming “More Money, More Condoms”
“First quarter, feeling like I’m ’bout to drop fifty/Parked at the arena in a drop-top Bentley,” raps Berg. A diehard Bulls fan, the MC says that he was given the idea to write a Derrick Rose tribute before the team’s playoff run began last month. The track has been played on Chicago radio stations WGCI since its release, according to Nielsen BDS.
“The response has been phenomenal… Hopefully I got my own little ‘Black and Yellow’ thing going on,” Yung Berg tells Billboard. “My goal is for it to be playing inside the Bulls playoff [games], like when Derrick Rose scores, or for ESPN to show it. I would love for it to get played like that.” [Scroll down to listen.]
A music video for “Derrick Rose,” which was shot in Chicago last week, will be released shortly. As for the song’s namesake winning the MVP award, Berg says that Rose “has been kicking ass all year. He deserves it. I definitely see [the Bulls] going to the finals, and I feel like they can win.” [Listen below.]
*Yung Berg has released a video responding to reports that he was among a number of victims who were beaten, pistol whipped and robbed during a house party in Los Angeles.
As reported earlier, the rapper was reportedly partying at a home in Woodland Hills early Sunday (Feb. 21) when two armed men force their way into the home with two gun-toting female accomplices.
AllHipHop.com reports that two women inside the home were also pistol whipped by the male intruders, while Yung Berg and seven others in the house were relieved of almost $10,000 in jewelry. One of the women escaped during the robbery and called police, who responded at 2 a.m. Authorities are searching for a black man and a woman who wore dark hooded sweatshirts and another female who wore a red sweatshirt.
A rep told TMZ.com that Yung Berg had been in Las Vegas the entire weekend and knew nothing about any home invasion. Now, the rapper himself has released a video basically saying, “I’m Fine. I’m Straight. There’s nothing wrong with nobody.”
