TV Land’s “The Soul Man”: (L-R) Niecy Nash, Cedric the Entertainer, Yvette Nicole Brown and Cedric Yarbrough
*Yvette Nicole Brown and Cedric Yarbrough will reprise their roles on the second season of TV Land’s “The Soul Man,” starring Cedric the Entertainer and Niecy Nash.
The Soul Man centers on Reverend Boyce “The Voice” Ballentine (Cedric) as he, his wife Lolli (Niecy Nash) and his family adjust to their new lifestyle from living the high life in Vegas at the top of the soul charts to being a “soul saver.”
Brown, from NBC’s “Community,” and Yarbrough, from Comedy Central’s “Reno 911,” will return as the Ballentines’ annoying former neighbors, Robyn and Paul, from Las Vegas. They previously appeared in a July 2012 episode.
Season 2 of “The Soul Man” begins at 11 p.m. on June 19.
*Though its ratings are not as robust as, say, “Modern Family,” the NBC sitcom “Community” – which follows a crew of students and teachers at a community college – has not only developed a cult following among viewers and become a critical darling, but is about to enter its third season on Sept. 22 with the chemistry among its eclectic cast members better than ever.
In fact, it’s the chemistry that co-star Yvette Nicole Brown says keeps viewers coming back each Thursday night at 8.
“You know what, I think that we all just like to make each other laugh,” she said of her cast at the Television Critics Association conference this year. “So a lot of times when I’m in a take, and it’s like we’re on take 57 around the study table, I’ll think to myself, ‘This one is for Danny [Pudi],’ and I’ll just do something just to make him giggle because he’s right across the table from me, or I know that, me and Alison [Brie] sometimes have little looks and stuff that we have. That’s really just for us, and the fact that the camera catches it is great. I think that the audience is kind of in on our little fun that we’re having, and I hope that it translates. I think that’s where it comes from.”
The cast of “Community” (L-R) Jim Rash, John Goodman, Donald Glover, Danny Pudi, Ken Jeong, Yvette Nicole Brown and Chevy Chase arrive at the NBC Universal TCA 2011 Press Tour All-Star Party at the SLS Hotel on August 1, 2011 in Los Angeles
In the audio bonus below, Brown, 40, says the writers also give each character multiple layers to play with.
*Style Network cameras will be rolling at Sherri Shepherd’s upcoming wedding.
The cable channel will follow “The View” co-host and her man Lamar Sally to the altar and present the footage as a special titled “Wedding Fabulous: Sherri Shepherd Gets Married,” to premiere Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 9 p.m.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, viewers will get a behind-the-scenes look at the events leading up to the wedding, which would be Shepherd’s second.
Guests include maid-of-honor Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Kym Whitley, Yvette Nicole Brown and Niecy Nash.
*”Cosby Show” alum Malcolm Jamal Warner will return to his NBC Thursday night stomping ground this season.
The actor is set to make a guest appearance in an upcoming episode of “Community,” according to Entertainment Weekly. He’ll appear as Andre, the ex-husband of Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown).
Warner begins work this week on the single-camera show that also stars Joel McHale and Chevy Chase.
Warner starred as Theo Huxtable in the NBC comedy “The Cosby Show” from 1984 to 1992. He went on to co-headline in “Malcolm & Eddie” from 1996-2000. His other credits include a stint on “Dexter” and “The Cleaner.”
