Boxing Champ Jermain Taylor Shoots Gun; Threatens to Kill Family at MLK Parade

Jermain-Taylor*A Little Rock, Arkansas woman was in fear for her family while encountering a drunken boxing champ Jermain Taylor at a Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade, according to NY Post.

Taylor threatened to shoot Tonya Smith‘s husband in the head and their 5-year-old, 3-year-old, and 1-year-old children at the parade after offering to take a photo with her son with his championship belt.

“He bent down to give my son the belt and he almost fell over and dropped the belt, and he thought my baby dropped the belt,” Smith said about a drunken Taylor.

Taylor pulled out a handgun and fired two shots in the air. Then, he pointed the gun at Smith’s husband’s head and threatened to shoot him.

“He put (the gun) up against his temple, I jumped in front of it and it went off up into the air,” Smith said. “He was going to shoot him, but I saw it, he was going to kill him and I had to hit the gun.”

She shielded her children when he turned the gun on them. “He was pointing at the kids, so I jumped in front of him again and said ‘Please don’t shoot my kids,’” she said.

He cursed at her while telling her he didn’t care about her kids. She and her family tried to get in their car and drive away, but he pointed his gun at the car too. Smith and her children were traumatized from the incident.

Taylor was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a minor and drug possession. This comes after shooting his cousin in August 2014.
