*Paula Abdul and Jason Derulo are joining summer reality competition series “So You Think You Can Dance” as new judges.
They’ll join co-creator/executive producer Nigel Lythgoe at the judges’ table now that longtime Mary Murphy is leaving the show.
Also returning for Season 12 of “SYTYCD” — which will feature a new twist in the competition: stage dancers vs. street dancers — is host Cat Deeley.
“With the new and exciting format comes a new and exciting panel of judges,” said Lythgoe. “Paula is an incredible artist, and she brings the perfect combination of expertise and heart to the panel. Jason’s insight, humor and creativity will add a new perspective to the panel that we haven’t had before.”
The pair starts their new gig Saturday, Jan. 24, for New York City auditions.
This marks Abdul’s return to FOX, where she was a judge on “American Idol” and “The X Factor.”
The singer/dancer-turned-choreographer has “SYTYCD” experience: She was a guest judge during the 2013 season on Fox and a judge on this year’s cycle of “SYTYCD” Australia. Derulo was a guest judge on “SYTYCD” last year.
