Featuring the individual musical performance styles of Brian Culbertson and Will Downing, the evening promises an alluring blend of smooth jazz, R&B and soul.

Brian Culbertson is a multi-talented composer, musician, producer, and plays multiple instruments, including synthesizer, piano, trombone, drums, bass and percussion. He has released 14 albums and garnered many awards for his music, including Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Male Artist of the Year at the Oasis Smooth Jazz Awards. He was nominated for Best Jazz Artist by the Soul Train Awards and for Best Jazz Album by the NAACP Image Awards.

Brian’s interest in music began at age 8 when he began taking piano lessons. At age 9 added drums to his repertoire, trombone when he was 10 and bass at age 12. Growing up in Chicago, his musical interest crossed several genres with groups such as Tower of Power, Fire, Chicago, Earth, Wind and Fire, The Becker Brothers and performers David Sanborn, Sting and Chick Corea.

Brian’s gift as a composer was realized early. All of the tunes for his 7th grade piano recital were original compositions. After playing in high school bands, he moved to downtown Chicago to study music at DePaul University. At age 20 Brian self-produced his first album, “Long Night Out.” While continuing to perform on tour and make records, he was also successful at creating compelling advertising tunes for commercials for major companies, including United Airlines, Gatorade, Sears, Coors and McDonald’s.

In 2012 Brian founded the Napa Valley Jazz Getaway, a 5-day festival of music, wine, food and art. That first event featured the talents of Sinbad, David Benoit, Eric Davis, Kenny Lattimore and Oleta James. The event has been a great success and the 4th annual festival is set for June 10-14, 2015.

For Valentine’s Day 2015 Brian Culbertson will bring the best of his broad musical talent to the stage of the Terrace Theater in Long Beach. This will be an evening to remember.

Will Downing is a singer, songwriter and producer who has truly earned the title, “Prince of Sophisticated Soul.”

With his warmly enchanting baritone vocals and enticing song interpretations, he enjoys the respect of his musical contemporaries and the support of thousands of loyal fans.

Will graduated from Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn, New York in 1981. During the 1980s he was a popular backup singer for many major artists. After signing with Island Records, he recorded two albums that enjoyed modest success. His self entitled album, “Will Downing,” was a major hit in the United Kingdom, with its Top Ten charting cover of “A Love Supreme” lifting the album to platinum sales.

Will’s 1991 album, “A Dream Fulfilled” showcased his talent as a song interpreter with diverse songs like War’s “The World is a Ghetto,” and “I Go Crazy” by Paul Davis. His version of Angela Bofill’s “I Try” and the album was critically acclaimed and made the Urban Top 25 Charts. His album “All the Man You Need” received a 2001 Grammy Nomination for Best Traditional R&B Album.

Each of Will’s releases have been well received, both by critics and fans, and his 17th album, “Euphoria,” was released in 2014. “Euphoria” features yet another “new” Will Downing sound. The voice is as warm and smooth as ever, but an “acoustic-lounge” production style attracts the listener into an even more intimate experience.

Over the past two decades, Will has proven one of the most consistently pleasing performers of his time and one of the top virtuosos of romantic, soulful music. For this Valentine’s Day concert in the intimate atmosphere of the Terrace Theater, Will brings his best to ensure his audience a truly romantic evening.
