Grammy Award nominated Maysa releases “Back 2 Love” album on Shanachie.

“This was suppose to come out before the Christmas record, but I had to have surgery,” said Grammy nominated Contemporary Jazz singer Maysa about her new album “Back 2 Love” on Shanachie Entertainment to be released May 26, 2015.

The “Back 2 Love” project features production and vocal help from Stokely Williams (Mint Condition) on the album’s first single “Keep It Moving.”

“He is just great. Such a nice man,” Maysa said about collaborating with Stokely, lead vocalist of the band Mint Condition. “I’ve been bless to meet like-minded people.”

Phil Perry joins her on the “Last Chance for Love” track and other producers include J.R. Hutson (Jill Scott), Lorenzo Johnson (Ledisi), and Chris “Big Dog” Davis (Kim Burrell).

“The older I get I want less things in life…less material things,” said the Baltimore native. When discussing what her listeners can expect on the album she said, “I hope the album encourages people to live their dreams. I put it (love) aside…my son is 16 and I’m ready to meet that person.”

With a degree from Morgan State University Maysa headed to Hollywood as a singer in Stevie Wonders backup group Wonderlove. She later moved to London to work as the lead singer in the British band Incognito – lead by Bluey.

Maysa’s first solo album was self-titled in 1995 on the GRP imprint. She went on to release three additional recording projects on the label before joining Shanachie Entertainment. “Back 2 Love” is her 8th album release on Shanachie.

“I want financial freedom and to get some weight off. I’m bless those are the only things I’m working on,” Maysa said as the interview ended.

Kirk was there with an impromptu performance and introduction into the film that chronicles an almost 2 hour concert by him and his band of legendary musicians and very talented singers. “The Gospel According to Jazz Chapter IV” is narrated by Kirk as he explains his philosophy on life, his choices in his music career and his style of music, while throughout it introducing his band members.
