*A reintroduction and renewed interest of N.W.A. and their music wasn’t the only thing triggered by the success of the group’s biopic “Straight Outta Compton.”
A 2003 video of Suge Knight joking about the death of N.W.A. founding member Eazy-E‘s from AIDS was sent viral. Knight’s joke about Eazy came during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” Eazy E succumbed to AIDS in 1995 at the age of 31.
“Technology is so high,” Knight told Kimmel in response to the talk show host’s decision to wear a bulletproof vest during the interview, “If you shoot somebody, you go to jail forever. You don’t want to go to jail forever…They have a new thing out. They have this stuff they called…they get blood from somebody with AIDS and they shoot you with it. That’s [a] slow death. The Eazy-E thing, you know what I mean?”
Despite the shock coming from the audience, Knight remained unfazed by what he said as he kept smoking his cigar (watch it below).
Knight’s history with Eazy-E goes back to Dr. Dre’s feud with his group mate when they were a part of N.W.A. Before It’s News referenced suspicions Dre had of Eazy and the group’s manager at the time, Jerry Heller, regarding how they handled his finances. Acting on his suspicions, Dre brought in Knight to look into the situation while asking Eazy to let him out of his contract.
After Eazy refused Dre’s request, Knight was brought in again for assistance. When rumors later spread by Knight about Eazy kidnapping Heller didn’t catch fire, Knight allegedly took things up a notch with threats to the Ruthless Records founder’s family. Although Eazy let Dre out of his contract, the beef between the two continued as they exchanged disses to each other via various rap songs.
While Eazy and Dre settled their differences when Eazy was diagnosed with AIDS, Knight looked to have carried on with his grudge against the late rhymesayer.
News of the viral interview comes amid an impressive showing at the box office for “Straight Outta Compton.” The F. Gary Gray-directed film, which stars O’Shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell, debuted with $60.2 million made last weekend, the best ever for an R-rated film in August.
As it stands now, Knight is facing charges of murder and attempted murder for January hit-and-run incident that took place in Compton, California. During the incident, Knight, who has plead not guilty to the charges, allegedly ran over Cle Sloan and Terry Carter, killing Carter and injuring Sloan.
