*Actors and actresses gathered in Woodland Hills, California (in the San Fernando Valley) on Sunday Sept. 14 at Tyrese Gibson’s house for the 13th Annual ‘Sunshine Beyond Summer Celebration’ that was put on by Vice President of Talent and Casting, Original Programming at Black Entertainment Television/BET, Robi Reed and the Reed for Hope Foundation (RFHF).

The mission of the organization is to change perspectives on wellness, health, and disease prevention. Celebrities that were in attendance this year included Tisha Campbell-Martin and her husband Duane Martin. Tasha Smith, Tina Knowles, Nia Long, John Salley, A.J. Johnson, Marcus Scribner, Stevie J and his wife Joseline Hernandez.

EURweb associate Kiki Ayers hit the red carpet (scroll down to watch) to see what some of your favorite celebrities do to stay fit and beautiful. Other than all the “beefcake” action you see “Love and Hip Hop Atlanta” couple Stevie J and Joseline participate in on the show, they said they hike and work out to stay fit. Retired professional basketball player, now sportscaster Salley explained that his nutrition choices are what keep him healthy and active.

“I’ve been a vegan for 8 years. I’ve been a vegetarian since ‘91. I’m 51 years old and have the same body weight I had in 1989,” he said.

A.J. Johnson who played Tyrese’s mom in the John Singleton directed movie Baby Boy still remains fit, toned and fabulous and age 52.

“Black does crack if you don’t take care of it. You have to eat very little processed foods, focus on water and watch your alcohol intake,” she said. “Keep your spirit clean and clear. Keep the stress low and this is what happens.”

Tisha Campbell-Martin encouraged black women specifically to start putting themselves first and start taking care of themselves.

“We give ourselves away so much,” she said. “We give ourselves to our jobs, to our husbands, to our kids, to our families, and we have to start learning how to take care of self first.”

The event featured vegan food served in the backyard of the house in addition to refreshments and alcohol beverages. Tyrese also performed songs off his #1 album, “Black Rose.”

Robi Reed, the woman of the hour thanked everyone for coming out and expressed the importance of the event. For more information on the Reed for Hope Foundation, please make sure to visit: https://reedforhope.org/home/
