Final Chance for High School Students to Apply for the 2016 Disney Dreamers Academy

*For 2016, Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, Steve Harvey and along with his corporate partners will once again present the eighth Disney Dreamers Academy with Essence Magazine mentoring program that incorporates innovative and outside-the-classroom training.

What is the Dreamer’s Academy?

Disney Dreamers Academy continues to hold true to its mission to inspire and fuel the dreams of teens, help them discover a world of possibilities and help them prepare for the future. Each year, students participate in hands-on, full-immersion workshops related to a bevy of career paths, ranging from animation to zoology. Each participant learns important skills such as communication techniques, networking strategies, goal setting, how to prepare for college, and how to develop personal and social etiquette, just to name a few.

How are Dreamers selected?

The application process has officially begun for the 2016 Disney Dreamers Academy. Potential Dreamers may apply for a chance to be one of 100 students elected to participate in the program. Students must be between the ages of 13-19, live in the United States and be enrolled in high school grades 9-12 when applying.

In order to enter to be considered for the academy, applicants must answer three essay questions describing their stories, the people who are most influential in their lives and their dreams for the future. Students are selected based on a combination of attributes, including a strong character, positive attitude and determination to achieve their dreams..

What will Dreamers learn while in the workshops?

There are many topics that students will cover like goal setting, how to prepare for college, and how to improve personal and social etiquette, just to name a few. They will also have the opportunity to listen to motivational speakers and celebrities share their stories and provide insight on how to achieve success.

Past speakers and celebrities at the academy have been co-anchor of E! News Terrence J, D’Wayne Edwards-Nike Footwear Designer, Will Packer Producer/Director of Rainforest Films, and Dr. Steve Perry CNN Education Correspondent.

Dreamers have access to cultivate relationships with other students from across the nation while they gain first-hand knowledge from Disney experts and world-renowned entrepreneurs and executives.

Where is the Dreamer’s Academy?

The Dreamer’s Academy takes place in a magical setting: the Walt Disney World Resort theme parks in sunny Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Both on stage and behind the scenes, the parks become vibrant ‘classrooms,’ leading to career discoveries, the pursuit of dreams and fun memories to cherish for a lifetime.

When will Disney Dreamers Academy take place?

The 2016 Disney Dreamers Academy will take place March 3 to 6. Dreamers and a parent or guardian will receive an all-expense-paid trip to Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, where they will engage in life-changing sessions and enjoy Disney’s magical theme parks.

Applications are open to U.S. high school students, ages 13 to 19, until Oct. 30, 2015. In November, a distinguished panel of leaders representing the best in their fields will judge the applications; the new group of chosen students to attend the academy will be announced in December 2015.
