Lamar Odom’s Rehab Could Take at Least Six Months: Former Coach

*Lamar Odom’s near fatal collapse in Nevada took a lot out of him.

So much so that, according to his close friend and former college basketball coach Jim Harrick, Odom’s rehabilitation cold last at least six months.

Chatting with USA Today Sports over the phone on Monday morning (Oct. 26), Harrick admitted that Odom has a grueling time ahead of him on the road to recovery.

“Obviously there is a lot of attention about all this but the thing to remember is that there is a long road ahead to rehabilitation,” said Harrick, who coached Odom at the University of Rhode Island during the 1998-99 season. “This is serious stuff. It could be six months or more for rehab and all that. We don’t know what state his kidneys and lungs are going to be in.”

Odom’s rehab comes after he was rushed to Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas after a three-day binge at the Love Ranch brothel in Crystal, Nevada left him unresponsive. The 911 call for the medics came from Love Ranch employees when two prostitutes found Odom in a state of distress. According to the Nye County sheriff, the 35-year-old former NBA star is suspected of using cocaine and sexual-performance enhancement pills.

Despite plans to divorce his wife Khloe Kardashian, a lawyer for the pair took that off the table by withdrawing the divorce papers at a Los Angeles court last week. Odom is currently recovering at Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles, where he’s been for the past week.

“The big thing is that we don’t feel he is going to die,” Harrick said. “That was the hard part, not knowing about that. All the guys he knows, all the guys he played with, everyone has just been hanging on pins and needles waiting to see what is going to happen.

“I love him and care about him. You can see from the reaction how people feel about him. I just want him to get right and have a long and happy life.”
