Bill Cosby Brings Defamation Lawsuit Against Beverly Johnson

bill-cosby-beverly-johnson*Bill Cosby is continuing his legal fight against those accusing him of sexual assault as he sues famed model Beverly Johnson for defamation.

Referencing a complaint filed by Cosby’s lawyers in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday (Dec. 21), TheWrap reports that false allegations the lawyers said Johnson made about Cosby drugging and attempting to have sex with her are an attempt by her to “thrust herself back into the spotlight.”

“Seeing an opportunity to thrust herself back into the spotlight and attempt to revive her flagging career as a model, actress and public personality, in December 2014, Defendant joined the campaign to assassinate Mr. Cosby’s reputation and character by willfully, maliciously and falsely accusing Mr. Cosby of drugging her at his home in New York and suggesting he did so in an effort to have sex with Defendant,” the complaint reads.

In addition to labeling Johnson’s accusations “entirely fabricated,” Cosby’s suit then goes on claim that Johnson “made all of her false accusations against Mr. Cosby with full knowledge of their falsity.”

The defamation suit against Johnson comes just a week after the comedian filed a countersuit for defamation against seven of his accusers. The past year as well as this year, hasn’t been kind to Cosby, in light of dozens of women accusing him of rape. For many of the accusers, the rape resulted after they were drugged by Cosby.

Since news surfaced about the allegations and lawsuits from the women, Cosby has taken major professional losses via a Netflix special being postponed and a stop being put on a comedy NBC was developing for him.

Cosby has never been charged regarding any of the allegations, which he as strongly denied.

In the new lawsuit, Cosby’s attorneys bring up Johnson’s past relationships, noting that the model is “no stranger to making salacious public allegations even before her false assertions about Mr. Cosby.”

In addition, they point out that Johnson “previously made allegations of abuse against two of her boyfriends, neither of which resulted in charges of any finding of liability.”

As a result of Johnson’s “intentional, extreme, outrageous and morally repugnant conduct,” the suit claims that Cosby has suffered “severe emotional distress including, but not limited to, tarnishment of reputation and public image, shame, mortification, hurt feelings and shock and harm to his peace of mind.”

Johnson has not been shy about detailing her situation with Cosby. In various interviews, she claims the entertainer drugged her in the mid-80s during an audition for “The Cosby Show.” Adding to this are claims Johnson has made that involve her being yanked down the stairs and pulled outside after calling Cosby “a motherfucker.”

Cosby’s lawsuit seeks unspecified damages amid claims of defamation, defamation per se, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
