Mos Def Gets Immigration Charges For Trying to Leave South Africa

mos-def-yasiin-bey*A “world passport” is not a license to leave South Africa.

Just ask Mos Def, who has been charged with using a false passport and an unrecognized travel document, according to TMZ. In addition, the rapper, now known as  Yasiin Bey, caught charges for helping his family stay in South Africa illegally. Since 2014, the family has been living in the country on an expired visa.

The charges come after Mos Def (born Dante Smith) was arrested last week for attempting to use his “world passport” to leave South Africa as well as illegal means to keeping his family in the country.

At this time, Mos Def is out on bail after being released on 5000 Rand — roughly $296 American dollars, South African officials confirmed. The rhymesayer has been ordered to report to Cape Town police every two days until his next court appearance on March 8. Although he will remain in South Africa for some time, Mos Def’s family has to leave the country by Jan. 29.

Not one to let the moment slip, Mos Def took his thoughts on the situation to music via a new freestyle over the beat to Kanye West’s new song “No More Parties in L.A.”

The title of Mos Def’s freestyle? “No More Parties in S.A.,” of course.
