*Morris Chestnut was an open book of conversation as he addressed rumors of him being a deadbeat dad.

During an appearance on Power 105’s “The Breakfast Club” on Tuesday (03-01-16), Chestnut discussed the situation, which stemmed from 30-year-old Dante Chestnut recently putting the “Rosewood” star on blast on social medial for being a deadbeat dad after leaving him and his mother when he landed the part of “Ricky” on the classic film “Boyz n the Hood.”

Explaining why Dante thought Chestnut was his father, the actor detailed the relationship he had with Dante’s mother, saying he was sleeping with her when he was about 17-18. During that time, the woman came to Chestnut one day to tell him she was pregnant. The woman’s pregnancy bombshell came before Chestnut married his wife Pam Bryse Chestnut with whom he has two kids, a 19-year-old son and a 17-year-old daughter.

Upon getting the news, Chestnut said he thought the child could be his and stepped up accordingly by starting a relationship with the woman while trying to take care of his responsibilities as a father. Nevertheless, the entertainer stated that the relationship with the woman was difficult one that found them constantly breaking up and making up.

Chestnut goes on to say that he and the woman had broken up at the time he got the role in “Boyz n the Hood.” From there, the drama elevated as lawyers were brought in when the woman tried to hit Chestnut with a paternity test for Dante, who was 3-years-old at the time. As it turned out, Chestnut was not the father.

Nevertheless, the “Best Man” star took it upon himself to sit down with Dante when he was about 9 and explain to him that he was not his father, said Chestnut, who stated that he doesn’t fault Dante for calling him a deadbeat because his mother has brainwashed him with the lies she continues to feed him. According to the YBF, Chestnut’s encounter with Dante marked the first time Dante heard that the actor was not his dad.

Despite his disappointment in how Dante handled the situation, Chestnut said that he blames Dante’s mother, who he says should have told Dante the truth once the paternity test revealed he was not the father.

As the Breakfast Club interviewed continued, things shifted in to a lighter stage as Chestnut promoted the spring return of “Rosewood” and revealed why he asked the show’s writers to fall back on creating scenes involving him without a shirt.

“I didn’t want it to be just about me taking my shirt off,” Chestnut shared. “I didn’t think that we could survive and have long-term longevity just about being shirtless. I wanted fans to get involved and really start learning the characters on the show.”
