Lifetime Developing Serena’s ‘Sister Dance’ – Janet’s Queenie Film

Serena-Williams*New films from Serena Williams and Janet Jackson are among those featured in Lifetime’s 2016/2017-development slate.

Shadow and Act reports that Williams will serve as an executive producer for “Sister Dance” (a working title), an original movie centering on a story inspired by the annual dance-off competition which she hosts with her sister, Venus.

The scripted telepic will focus on two sisters who become rivals when they pit themselves against each other and their respective dance teams in an epic dance battle.

For Jackson, plans call for her to executive produce the story of 1920’s New York City mobster, Stephanie St. Clair. Known as “Queenie,” St. Clair is noted for being the the first and only woman gangster during the prohibition while running numerous criminal enterprises in Harlem, NYC in the early part of the 20th century as a mob boss. Despite bumping heads with the then-Italian mafia, St. Clair managed to stay entirely independent while helming her criminal empire.

In Bill Duke‘s 1997 gangland crime drama “Hoodlum” Queenie was played by Cicely Tyson.

Jackson’s film, which will be set against the backdrop of The Cotton Club, will be directed by Kenny Leon.
