*Even the sports world is feeling the loss of Prince Rogers Nelson.

His Royal Badness was found dead at his home on Thursday in suburban Minneapolis, according to his publicist. He was 57.

“We’ve lost a legend way too soon. #RIPPrince,” tweeted the Minnesota Vikings, his hometown NFL team.

Per ESPN:

Prince was a huge Minnesota Vikings fan, even penning a song for the team. “Praise every voice and let it be known, in the name of the purple and gold,” the song begins. “We come in the name of the purple and gold, all of the odds are in our favor … long live the purple and gold!” Listen to Prince’s Minnesota Vikings fight song here.

The NBA also expressed condolences. NBA commissioner Adam Silver stated: “I want to note Prince’s passing. … I crossed paths with him many times during my NBA tenure. … After the All-Star game in Minneapolis he hosted a legendary late-night party that people still talk about. … On behalf of the NBA family I want to say how sorry we are for his family and his millions of fans.” Prince’s hometown NBA and WNBA teams are also reeling today, tweeting a statement about his support of both the Timberwolves and Lynx:

After news of Prince’s death was reported this morning, the Golden State Warriors played Prince classics at their shootaround while they prepared for tonight’s playoff game against the Houston Rockets. Prince had made headlines by appearing courtside at a Warriors game on March 3.

Prince’s hometown MLB team, the Minnesota Twins, tweeted :

Some sports sites paid tribute by posting his performance at Super Bowl XLI in Miami in 2007, calling it among the best. Billboard called his halftime show at Dolphins Stadium, “the greatest performance in Super Bowl halftime history.” Prince famously played through a driving rain, performing Creedence Clearwater Revival’s classic ‘Proud Mary,’ Jimi Hendrix’s iconic version of Bob Dylan’s ‘All Along The Watchtower,’ and his own hits ‘Let’s Go Crazy’ and ‘1999.’ But it was his performance of “Purple Rain” in the rain that perhaps provided the most lasting memory.
