*Its twenty years later since the first “Independence Day” hit theaters in 1996. The technology in the 90s can’t be compared to the advances we see now in 2016, but the original film’s creators still had the audience on the edge of their seats.
The question of the night for the red carpet premiere was “What can we expect differently from a technological point of view?” We’re guessing more flashing lights and big building blowing up perhaps? Well, the film’s star Jeff Goldblum, and the writers couldn’t share what exact change they made but assured that it will be a great summer popcorn ride!
Now, we have the follow-up sequel “Independence Day: Resurgence” returning with an almost original full cast. However, new cast member Jessie Usher who plays one of the lead characters, Dylan Hiller, is sure to bring a star studded performance. Usher who is staying busy with shows such as “Survivors Remorse” on Starz is a young face that you will continue to see as his career sails along. In case you’re wondering, Dylan Hiller is the son of Captain Steven Hiller who of course was played by Will Smith in the original “Independence Day.”
Leading up to the red carpet there had been some talk on why Will Smith was not a part of the second production of this iconic franchise. Actor Bill Pullman and others reminded us that Smith played a great role in the original production much like every other character did, but his absence shouldn’t hurt the chance for success for “Independence Day: Resurgence.”
“Smith surely gave the movie his blessing, though,” Pulliam added.
Lastly, the cast and trailer spill the beans that the aliens have been staying quiet for the past twenty years. Only to come back with twenty years of REVENGE! So to flip back to reality we had to ask the cast if aliens are even real? We got mixed answers from the cast on that one. However, producer and composer Herald Kloser had the best answer to that question which was:
“I would like to meet an alien in my lifetime, just not these kind!”
