White Veteran Dallas Cop Says Blacks Targeted, Arrested To Meet Quotas

officer Nick Novello*A Dallas cop — who served on the beat for 34 years — has spoken out against his department’s unlawful practice of harassing and wrongfully arresting African-Americans in order to fill arrest quotas. 62-year-old Veteran officer Nick Novello, cited the improper practice and brutal, lawless arrests as the source of mistrust between law officials and communities of color.

“Officers are under pressure to reach targets,” Novello told the Daily Mail in an exclusive interview. “There has to be an end to the arrest and ticket quota that exists within the Dallas Police Department.”

The veteran cop said these racially motivated quotas only exacerbates predatory policing and brutality by overzealous cops.

“A lot of the Black community are supportive of the police, and that’s wonderful,” he said. “But a large number say we can’t police ourselves. Not only can’t we police ourselves, we go out of our way to protect the predator cop.”

Novello also blasted the department for profiting from their questionable “To Serve And Protect” tactics.

“In my estimation, the quota system is corrupt,” he said. “You are telling the officer who has a great deal of power that he is required to exercise that and generate funds for the city. Arrests generate money.”

His comments come weeks after five officers were shot and killed in what authorities called a sniper ambush on police during a peaceful Black Lives Matter protest. Seven officers and two civilians were also injured in the shootings.

After an exchange of gunfire, officers attached explosives to a bomb robot and detonated them near suspect sniper Micah Xavier Johnson — killing him. Dallas police said during a search of Johnson’s home, “detectives found bomb making materials, ballistic vests, rifles, ammunition and a personal journal of combat tactics.”
