Everyone is Still Really Mad at Kevin Durant

Kevin-Durant

*In the United States, 35% of young people aged 20 to 24 relocate every year. But do any of them receive more than $50 million when they move?

Kevin Durant, the 27-year-old seven-time NBA all star, just did. And even though Durant has $50 million to comfort him, his move has already proven to be the most unpopular decision since LeBron announced he was leaving Cleveland and moving to Miami. In short, people are mad as hell.

“Weakest move I’ve ever seen from a superstar,” said Stephan A. Smith, an ESPN analyst.

But while many people expected the criticism to die down after a few weeks, that simply isn’t happening.

Jae Crowder is the latest NBA player to sound off on Durant’s decision; the Celtic’s player is bitter that Durant rejected Boston’s recruiting efforts.

“We were the only team in the NBA to beat both (Cleveland and Golden State) on their home court – the only team in the NBA, the Boston Celtics,” Crowder recently told MassLive.com. “We told him that. We played him clips from both games and told him basically the scouting report of how we guarded Steph (Curry) and Klay (Thompson) – our entire game plan, basically. That’s what made me mad. We (expletive) told him everything we do to beat these guys, and we beat them, and he went and joined them.”

After spending eight years with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Durant decided to join the Golden State Warriors for at least the next two years, signing a two-year, $54.3 million deal. According to ESPN, many members of the sports world are upset with Durant’s decision to join the record-breaking NBA best Golden State Warriors, after OKC fell to Golden State in the playoffs two years in a row.

Fans, players and coaches were surprised to see Durant go to Golden State because of how well received he was in the Oklahoma City community.

“Being in Oklahoma City, knowing how big a part of the community he was, I’m sure it’s a difficult decision for him,” said Robert Pack, an assistant coach for OKC. “But it’s one that he he’s made now, and hopefully he makes the best of it over there.”

USA Today reports that Durant’s decision to join to Warriors might have been influenced by a seriously high-tech virtual reality presentation the team put together.

“There were shots of the Golden Gate Bridge, footage from the Warriors practice facility, of coach Steve Kerr talking to his team inside the Oracle Arena loser room,” wrote Sam Amick in the newspaper. “Even a courtside view inside the building where there had been so much basketball bliss.”

Of course, the millions of dollars and great chance at winning a title may have played a part in Durant’s choice, too.

Durant, along with the two-time MVP Steph Curry and the rest of the Warriors squad, will look to win their second NBA championship in three years.
