*Idris Elba continues his relationship with Discovery Networks UK with his participation in the new limited series, “Idris Elba: Fighter.”
The three-part documentary follows the British actor as he undertakes the physically and mentally demanding task of training to become a professional kickboxer. The series culminates with Elba facing a seasoned fighter in a real no-holds-barred match set to take place in October.
“It has been a lifelong ambition of mine to fight professionally. Entering the ring to further test myself as a human being is a challenge I have been looking to take on for quite some time,” Elba stated.
Cameras follow the “Luther” star as he receives mentoring from former world champions, trainers and coaches, and travels the world to incorporate unorthodox training methods and regimens to increase his chances for the main event.
Elba’s travel for the show included stops in the UK, Cuba, Japan, South Africa and Thailand.
He is producing via his company Green Door Pictures, with an early 2017 air date eyed in both the UK and the USA, on the Discovery Channel.
“Idris Elba: Fighter” follows Elba’s four-part series “Idris Elba No Limits,” which aired last month and captured the actor tackling rally driving, street racing, aerobatics and power boating to master not only the discipline of racing, but also the engineering, science and history behind it.
