*The CW is teaming with John Singleton and Warner Bros. TV for a new drama project that combines hip hop with the hereafter.

Titled “Straight Outta Heaven,” the story revolves around a hip hop star who dies but comes back to life as a guardian angel.

Singleton and his producing partner Dallas Jackson are co-writing the script and will exec produce, according to Variety.

The project comes on the heels of his drama series “Rebel” at BET, and the period drama “Snowfall” for FX. Both series are expected to premiere next year.

He also recently directed an episode of Showtime’s “Billions” for its second season.

Singleton also nabbed an Emmy nomination this year for directing an episode of FX’s “The People V. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.” That nom made him the first African-American director ever to receive an Emmy nomination and an Oscar nomination, which Singleton earned for his debut feature, 1991’s “Boyz in the Hood.”
