*”I believe I am an agent for change. The future belongs to those who are open to positive change. People can get stuck in tradition. You got to move on to the next level in life,” said Grammy nominated Bishop Paul S. Morton during an interview. The Bishop has a new album release, “Legacy: Live in New Orleans” (Tehillah Music Group/Entertainment One), featuring two different generations of artists. This is his final solo project.

The new album features vocal assistance from Rance Allen, 11-time Grammy winner Shirley Caesar, William Murphy, III, Tasha Cobbs, Lisa Knowles, Zacardi Cortez, DeWayne Woods and his son Grammy Award winning PJ Morton (Maroon5). The Bishop is cofounder of the Greater St. Stephen Full Gospel Baptist Church in New Orleans and is Senior Pastor of the Changing A Generation Full Gospel Church in Atlanta. The live recording has the assistance of 100 members of Greater Change Mass Choir which includes vocalists from both the Greater St. Stephen Full Gospel Baptist Church Choir and the Changing A Generation Full Gospel Baptist Church Choir.

“We bring together Gospel legends that been out for a while that made an impact and the 21st Century artists,” said Bishop Morton about the project. “Rance Allen, I’ve known for years and Shirley Caesar – what can I say… there’s 21st Century artists like Tasha Cobbs…Lisa Knowles, Zacardi Cortez and my son PJ Morton – two Worlds.”

The result of the mixture is a powerful and unique sound that ensures the legacy of the music ministry of the Morton’s – Bishop Paul S. Morton and son PJ Morton. Bishop Paul S. Morton was raised by a Bishop of the Church of God in Christ (COGIC) in Ontario, Canada and Detroit, Michigan.

“I come from New Orleans…We have a church there,” the Bishop said when asked why he chose New Orleans as the live recording site. New Orleans is where Bishop Morton relocated to start his own ministry and where he found his music ministry. Forty years has been spent managing this ministry with wife Pastor Debra Morton. They have three children and seven grand-children.

“We had to turn people away,” the Bishop said about the day of the live show/recording. “People came from everywhere. So many artists came that were not on to perform…you could feel the love.”

You can also “hear” the love in “Legacy: Live in New Orleans”. My favorite cuts on the project include #4 “God Has Been Good,” featuring Rance Allen, because it brought me back to old school church worship; #5 “Faithful,” featuring Lisa Knowles, because the vocal assistance from Knowles makes it a powerful piece; #7 “Keeping Me Alive,” featuring Pastor Shirley Caesar, because it takes me back again to that old school church way of worship as only Caesar could deliver; #8 “He Loves Me” an explosively powerful love song that offers a Heavenly harmonic ending; #9 “Watching Over Me” an uplifting and hand clapping Praise & Worship piece; #10 “Let Go,” featuring PJ Morton and DeWayne Woods, because of the message – its one I give to myself and others as well, and #12 “Bow to the Name,” featuring Zacardi Cortez, a majestic Praise & Worship song that can carry with the praise for ages.
